JD Pruitt

JD Pruitt will enter his third season as the Head Baseball Coach at Coastal Alabama Community College in Bay Minette ahead of the 2026 season after leading the Coyotes to a 30-26 record in 2025. The Coyotes finished just two wins shy of an NJCAA National Championship Berth in 2025, finishing third in the ACCC D-I Baseball standings. Pruitt has helped produce six ACCC All-Conference performers across his two seasons, three of which earned ACCC First-Team honors.

Coach Pruitt came to Coastal Alabama South after spending five successful seasons as the head baseball coach at Spanish Fort High School in Spanish Fort, Ala. Before his time with the Toros, he also served as an assistant football coach, head strength and conditioning coordinator, and head baseball coach at Enterprise High School in Enterprise, Ala. Pruitt earned his master's in Physical Education from Troy University (Ala.) in 2012, where he also served as a graduate assistant with the strength and conditioning program. In addition, he spent time as an intern with Troy University and SPEED Sports Performance in Peachtree City, Georgia. 

During his high school coaching tenure, Coach Pruitt’s teams broke numerous school and state records. In 2017, his team broke the school record for wins (30), fielding percentage (.947), on-base percentage (.435), and home runs in a single game (7 - which also tied for second all-time in the state of Alabama). His 2018 team broke the school records for stolen bases (121), hit by pitches (85 - ranked sixth all-time in the state of Alabama). In 2022, they stole 193 bases (sixth all-time in the state); Most recently in 2023, Coach Pruitt led the Toros all the way to the state finals where they finished as state runner-ups. 

Pruitt is a graduate of G.W. Long High School where he was a part of three state championship baseball teams. From there, he signed a baseball scholarship with Central Alabama Community College (Ala.) and was also tabbed an Academic All-American in 2005. Pruitt then signed with the University of Montevallo (Ala.) where he graduated with a degree in Exercise Science (’07), lettered in baseball for two years and was a two-time All-American. In June of 2007, Coach Pruitt was drafted in the 23rd round of the Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft by the Oakland A's. He spent three years in the A's minor league system before retiring in early 2010. 

For his accomplishments as a student-athlete, in 2010, Pruitt was recognized as on the First-Team All-Decade Team by the Gulf South Conference. In 2018, Pruitt was inducted into the University of Montevallo Hall of Fame. Pruitt is USA Weightlifting Level 1 Sports Performance Coach certified and a certified member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and a Registered Strength Coaches in the state of Alabama. As both a player and coach, Pruitt has a total of nine state or conference championships. From 2016-2023, he has coached 14 All-State players, three North/South All-Stars, six Pre-Season Under Armour All-Americans, and one North/South All-Star Game MVP.
 
Pruitt also serves as Secretary on the board of the Alabama Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). During the summer, Pruitt assists in various roles with USA Baseball including coaching duties with 13/14 ADP, 15U Training Camp, and Task Force. He was named assistant coach for the 2025 Team USA 15U squad. 
 
Pruitt is married to Melissa Pruitt and the proud father of twin girls (Isabella and Selena) and son (Alexander).
