Shanece McKinney Sims is a native of Mobile, Ala. where she attended LeFlore High School. During her time with the Rattlers, she was part of the 2009 AHSAA State Championship team, and in 2010 she was honored for her athletic achievements as both an Alabama Miss Basketball nominee and McDonald’s All-American selection finalist. Upon graduation, she attended Louisiana State University where she advanced to two NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 appearances.
After her four years were up in Baton Rouge, she signed as a free agent with the WNBA for the New York Liberty (2014-2015), coached by Bill Laimbeer. In addition to her time in the WNBA, McKinney Sims also competed fours years playing internationally through FIBA (2014-2018) with stops in Turkey, France, Spain, Romania, South Korea and Lebanon.
In addition to her playing career, McKinney Sims has six years under her belt as a head coach for high school girl's basketball. She is married to Anthony Sims Jr. whom also coaches locally. They have two kids Ari (4) and Swayze (1).
