PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Coastal Alabama - South Men's Basketball team, led by 10th-year head coach Robby Robertson, opened the 2025-26 campaign with a challenging weekend at the Pensacola State Classic over the weekend, dropping contests to Mississippi Gulf Coast and Itawamba Community College (Miss.) to being the season 0-2. The Coyotes are set for an additional two-game tournament this upcoming weekend before playing the home opener in Bay Minette on Tuesday, Nov. 11.
The Highlights
In the season opener on Friday, Oct. 31, the Coyotes fell 104-81 to Mississippi Gulf Coast. Sophomore guard Josh Williams led the way with a stellar 29-point performance, hitting 4-of-8 from three-point range and a perfect 9-for-9 from the free-throw line. Makhi Jones followed and added 18 points and led the team with eight rebounds, while BJ Cooks contributed 12 points and four boards from off the bench. Coastal - South shot 38% from the field and was out-rebounded 50-27 by the Bulldogs.
The Coyotes returned to action the following day on Saturday, Nov. 1 against Itawamba Community College, falling 85-67 despite a strong second-half push. Micah Medley paced Coastal - South with 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting, while Josh Williams tallied a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Cooks added 12 points and Makhi Jones finished with 11 points as Coastal - South improved its shooting to 41.5 percent from the floor and 70 percent from the line. However, the Coyotes couldn't overcome Itawamba's early 44-23 halftime lead.
Through two games, Josh Williams leads the Coyotes averaging 20.5 points and 7.5 rebounds, while Medley and Jones each contribute double-digit scoring.
Pearl River Classic
Coastal Alabama - South will look to bounce back at the Pearl River Classic this upcoming weekend, scheduled to start on Friday, Nov. 7 in Poplarville Miss. The Coyotes are set to face Pearl River Community College (Miss.) on Friday at 7:00 p.m. CT before concluding the tournament on Saturday, Nov. 8 against Hinds Community College (Miss.) at 12:00 p.m. CT.
