Former Coyotes Neuschwander, Cain Drafted by Major League Baseball Clubs

BAY MINETTE, Ala. - The Coastal Alabama Baseball programs saw two former standout players selected during the 2025 Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft, which closed on July 14. The Coastal Alabama South Baseball program saw former pitcher Dalton Neuschwander drafted in the 10th round by the Baltimore Orioles. Later, the Coastal Alabama North Baseball program saw former two-way player Brandon Cain drafted in the 19th round by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Neuschwander spent two seasons with Coastal Alabama ('21-22), while Cain spent the 2023 season as a Coyote.

Neuschwander heads to the Baltimore Orioles organization after being chosen in the 10th round as the 304th overall pick in the draft. The Spanish Fort, Ala. native spent the 2021 and 2022 campaigns as a Coyote before transferring to the University of West Florida, where he played the last three seasons. During his time as a Coyote in Bay Minette, Neuschwander made 25 appearances on the mound as a right-handed pitcher, tallying 77 total innings. He recorded 62 strikeouts and finished 7-5 on the rubber in his two-year career. His fastball currently touches the upper 90s. "Getting drafted has been a dream come true," Neuschwander said to UWF staff. "I give glory to God, my family, coaches, and teammates." - Quote Courtesy of University of West Florida Athletics

Brandon Cain was selected in the 19th round (No. 563 overall) of the 2025 MLB Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Cain, a multi-position talent from Mobile, Ala., is transitioning full-time to pitching. He spent the 2023 season with Coastal Alabama North before transferring to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and then to the University of Oklahoma. During his lone season as a Coyote, Cain managed a 2.42 ERA on the rubber in nine appearances and 44 2/3 innings of work. He finished 4-2 across his nine games pitched, tossing three complete games in the process. Cain struck out 39 batters during the 2023 campaign, recording a WHIP of just 1.07. In addition, Cain slashed .317 at the plate with 10 extra-base hits and 19 RBIs in 2023. "I know I will develop as soon as I get with them," Cain shared to RumBunter.com. Cain's cousin is former World Series champion Lorenzo Cain of the Kansas City Royals. "He [Lorenzo] has been there to guide me through the process and give me information when I need it," Cain noted. - Quote Courtesy of RunBunter.com
