HANCEVILLE, Ala. - Coastal Alabama - South Women's Basketball endured a tough night on the road Monday, Jan. 29, falling 63-32 to Wallace State - Hanceville (Ala.) in conference action.
The Coyotes struggled to find a consistent offensive rhythm throughout the contest, shooting 30.2 percent from the floor and just 2-of-19 (10.5 percent) from three-point range. Wallace State capitalized on second-chance opportunities and controlled the glass, outrebounding Coastal Alabama - South 55-28 to secure the win on its home court.
Wallace State built an early advantage behind balanced scoring and strong work in the paint. Zamyra Goode led all scorers with 17 points, adding 12 rebounds and six assists in an all-around performance. Idaysia Mercer contributed 10 points, while Taylor Smith came off the bench to add 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Lions.
Despite the offensive struggles, the Coyotes continued to compete defensively and on the boards. Kalaysia Robinson led Coastal Alabama - South with eight points on an efficient 3-of-4 shooting night and pulled down seven rebounds. Tyra Caves added nine points, including a three-pointer, and Shamiya Oliver recorded five points and a team-high nine rebounds.
The Coyotes were limited to just five assists as a team and were unable to generate consistent perimeter production against Wallace State's defense. Coastal Alabama - South finished 4-of-6 from the free throw line and committed six turnovers in the contest.
Wallace State shot 33.3 percent from the field but made 15-of-19 free throws and turned 15 offensive rebounds into key second-chance opportunities that extended possessions and widened the gap.
Coastal Alabama - South will look to regroup and bounce back in its next conference matchup as the Coyotes continue ACCC play on Monday evening, Feb. 2 against Southern Union State (Ala.) at home. Monday's game is slated to tip off at 5:30 p.m. CT.
