Pearl River Powers Past Coastal Alabama - South at Stanley James Field

Coyotes Tally 16 Hits but Surrender Five Home Runs in 21-11 Setback

STANLEY JAMES FIELD | BAY MINETTE, Ala. - Coastal Alabama - South Baseball pounded out 16 hits Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 10 at Stanley James Field in Bay Minette, but Pearl River Community College (Miss.) used a power surge to hand the Coyotes a 21-11 home loss, dropping the overall record on the year to 5-4 for the Coyotes.

How It Happened

Pearl River plated runs in six different innings and launched five home runs in the contest, building an early cushion and holding off multiple Coastal rallies. The Wildcats struck first with a run in the opening inning, then broke the game open with a three-run third and three-run fourth before Coastal hit the scoreboard with three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Leading 7-3, Pearl River then added six runs next inning, while pushing across two more runs in the eighth after the Coyotes rallied with six runs in the seventh.

Eventually, Pearl River put the game out of reach with a six-run ninth inning, going on to win the non-conference battle, 21-11.

Despite the loss, several Coyotes put together notable performances on Tuesday. Clayton Kimball led the Coyotes at the plate, finishing 4-for-5 with a double, a home run and five RBI. Kimball finished a triple shy of the cycle and currently sits second in the ACCC with 13 RBIs on the young season. Meanwhile, Aiden Hughes added a key swing off the bench, blasting a grand slam late to drive in four runs during the seventh-inning rally that put the 'Yotes within two.

Grayson Roberson finished 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two walks as the second baseman continues to lead the conference with 14 runs driven in this season. Derek Jelen and Jeffrey Diaz each collected two hits, while Kennedy Leggett and Jack Holley both recorded RBI, with Holley adding a double among Coastal - South's extra-base hits.

On the mound, John Henry Winstead took the loss in the start in a bullpen game. Coastal utilized nine pitchers in the contest, combining for six strikeouts. Pearl River managed 18 hits against Coastal - South pitching, eight being extra-base hits.

Coastal Alabama - South will look to regroup as the Coyotes return to the road this week.

Home and Home Series
