Men’s Basketball Drops Road Contest at Shelton State, 111-80

Coyotes Fall in Fourth Consecutive Contest

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Playing without ACCC leading scorer Josh Williams, Coastal Alabama - South Men's Basketball fell 111-80 on the road at Shelton State (Ala.) in conference action. The loss is Coastal - South's fourth straight, and drops the overall record on the season to 6-16. Additionally, the Coyotes fall to 1-6 in ACCC action.

The Highlights

Josh Williams, who averages a league-best 22.1 points per game, was inactive for the matchup, leaving the Coyotes to adjust their offensive approach against a high-powered Buccaneer squad.

Despite the absence, Coastal - South had strong individual performances and shot 46.2 percent (30-of-65) from the field and 37.5 percent (12-of-32) from three-point range. However, Shelton State's offensive efficiency and depth proved decisive, as the Buccaneers shot 56.5 percent (39-of-69) from the floor and converted 21-of-31 (67.7 percent) at the free-throw line.

Makhi Jones led the Coyotes with 26 points on 10-of-23 shooting, adding seven rebounds. Jaden Champion followed with 22 points and a team-high seven assists, knocking down four three-pointers in 37 minutes of action. AJ Thompson added 10 points and four assists, while Christian Little contributed nine points, all from beyond the arc.

In addition, Tyler Rivers provided a presence on the glass with a team-high 10 rebounds, including seven offensive boards, to go along with seven points. Coastal - South finished with 30 total rebounds and 15 assists as a team.

The Buccaneers held a 43-30 rebounding advantage and forced 17 Coastal Alabama - South turnovers, turning defensive stops into transition opportunities throughout the night.
