PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. - The Coastal Alabama - South Softball team competed at the annual PCB JUCO Showdown in Panama City, Fla. over the weekend, playing four total games from Feb. 6-7. The Coyotes dropped both games played on Friday to begin tournament action, while splitting two games on the final day. The 1-3 weekend moves the overall record on the season to 3-3 on the young 2026 campaign.
Weekend Recap
Coastal - South opened tournament play in Florida against Itawamba Community College (Miss.), falling 14-6 in a run-rule decision after a pivotal second inning. The Coyotes built an early 4-0 advantage, but the Indians responded with a 10-run outburst in the bottom of the second and maintained control the rest of the way. Itawamba narrowly outhit Coastal 11-9 in the contest as Sydni Carpenter led the Coyotes offensively with two RBIs, while Riley Dunnam and Charlotte Lottinger each recorded two hits. In the pitcher's circle, Jacey Reed and Sam Daniels were each charged with six earned runs in the loss.
Later that afternoon, the 'Yotes fell 8-2 to Pearl River Community College (Miss.) to open the tourney 0-2. Pearl River managed the first five runs of the game before Coastal - South hit the scoreboard in the fourth inning following a solo home run off the bat of Sydni Carpenter. Charlotte Lottinger joined Carpenter with a solo shot, coming in the seventh and final inning. From the rubber, Reed was hit with five additional earned runs, while Anna Robin allowed three in five innings of work from out of the bullpen.
On the next day, Coastal - South was held quiet offensively in a 7-1 loss to Daytona State (Fla.). The Coyotes could only muster three hits as a team, with the long run coming in the fourth inning. Carpenter continued her hot start to the 2026 campaign with a double in the loss, while Jacey Reed recorded Coastal's lone RBI. Anna Robin tossed 4 2/3 innings, giving up four earned runs, while Reed allowed three runs in relief.
In the final game of the weekend tournament, the Coyotes got into the win column with a 10-2 run-rule victory in six innings over Tallahassee State (Fla.). Both teams traded runs in the second before Coastal - South pushed across four runs in the third inning alone. The 'Yotes added five more runs across the fourth, fifth, and sixth frames to seal the win. Sydni Carpenter continued her incredibly hot start to the 2026 season, recording three more hits to finish the weekend 6-for-12 (.500 avg) at the plate. On the year, Carpenter is hitting .650 with a team-high 13 hits, four doubles, and four home runs. She has also driven in an ACCC-best 12 RBIs.
From the pitcher's circle, Sam Daniels tossed all six innings, allowing just one earned run and three hits. Daniels struck out six and walked five in the winning performance, helping Coastal salvage a tough weekend in the Florida panhandle.
Coyotes vs. Coyotes Ahead
Coastal - South's road stretch continues this week, with the 'Yotes traveling to Monroeville, Ala. for a doubleheader against the fellow Coyotes of Coastal Alabama - North on Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 11. Wednesday's doubleheader is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. CT and will be the only meeting between the two sibling rivals this year. Additionally, the two games will be broadcasted live on JockJive.com.
