Cedric Yelding joined the staff at Coastal Alabama Community College as an assistant coach in the fall of 2020. He was an assistant coach for two seasons in Bay Minette before taking the reigns as Head Coach in 2022. In just his first season leading the program, Yelding won the ACCC South Division Coach of the Year and advanced his team to the ACCC Tournament. Yelding enters his fourth season at the helm of the program ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.
Before arriving in Bay Minette, Yelding had previous coaching stops at local high schools, Robertsdale High School (Ala.) and Daphne High School (Ala.). In his high school coaching career, he had a combined 314 varsity wins and remains the all-time winningest coach in Daphne High School history. During Yelding’s coaching time in high school, he had also helped coach four NCAA Division I signees and many Junior college signees.
Coach Yelding received a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and a Minor in Sociology from the University of South Alabama as well as a Driver Education certificate from Jacksonville State University (Ala.). He went to obtain his master’s in Education / Instructional Leadership from the University of West Alabama. Furthermore, he also completed his Distance Education Certificate through Coastal Alabama in the spring of 2024.
Coach Yelding was a four-year starting point guard at the University of South Alabama; where he was selected as the team's captain in his final two seasons for the Jaguars. Upon completion at South Alabama, Coach Yelding led the program's history books in three separate statistical categories: total assists, total steals, and single-season steals. For his efforts, he was inducted into the South Alabama Hall of Fame in 2007. In addition to his collegiate recognition, Coach Yelding was also inducted into the Fairhope High School (Ala.) Hall of Fame as a player and the Daphne High School Hall of Fame as a coach.
Yelding is a native of Daphne, Ala. where he currently resides and is married to Phyllis Caldwell Yelding of 30 years. Together they have two adult children: Amber Yelding and Cedric Yelding Jr. The Yelding’s also have one grandson, Caden James Yelding.
