Coyotes Sweep Northeast Alabama in Tuesday Afternoon Doubleheader

Coastal Alabama South Gets Revenge Over Visiting Mustangs

BAY MINETTE, Ala. - One day after Coastal Alabama South Softball picked up a pair of non-conference wins in run-rule fashion over Carl Sandburg Community College (Ill.), the Coyotes returned to ACCC play at home on Tuesday afternoon, March 11 for a conference doubleheader against Northeast Alabama. Coastal South and Northeast Alabama met just this past Thursday, March 6 in Rainsville, Ala. to begin the ACCC portion of the schedule, which eventually saw Northeast Alabama come away with two wins in high-scoring contests.

On Tuesday, the Coyotes found revenge on their home field and swept the Mustangs. Coastal South won 6-3 in an hard-fought game one, while picking up a convincing 8-0 run-rule win in game two. The Coyotes improve to 17-10 overall on the year, while advancing the young conference record to 2-2.

Prior to the start of Tuesday's action, Coastal South Softball Head Coach Mallory Radwitch was honored pregame with a ball commemorating her 400th-career win recorded the night before against Carl Sandburg. Tuesday's two victories are career wins 401 and 402 for the 12th-yead head coach.

Sweeping on Tuesday

In game one on a clear day in Baldwin County, Ala., Coastal South opened the conference doubleheader with a three-run first inning, followed by a three-run second inning. Trailing 6-0 entering the middle innings, Northeast Alabama began chipping away at the lead, eventually cutting the deficit to just three runs. However, Coastal South starting pitcher Lauren Mounce survived the comeback and closed out a gutsy performance in the circle to secure a complete game performance. Mounce struck out seven in the winning effort.

At the plate, Sydni Carpenter put together a strong 2-for-2 showing at the plate, leading the Coyotes with four RBIs. Carpenter added a walk and scored two runs. She was followed by Kailin Parker, who notched one RBI and finished 3-for-4 at the dish. In total, Coastal South only collected six hits in the win, leaving 14 runners on base.

In game two, it was all Coyotes as Coastal South earned a run-rule win in five innings. Caroline Mathis paced the offense with four runs driven in, finishing 3-for-3 at the plate, while Charlotte Lottinger managed a 1-for-3 line with three RBIs. Kailin Parker finished 2-for-2 in game two, finishing Tuesday's doubleheader with five hits. Meanwhile, Sam Daniels collected the complete game on the rubber, allowing just three hits across the five innings.

What's Ahead

The Coyotes are back in action on Thursday, March 13 at the Coastal Alabama South Softball complex, facing Southern Union (Ala.) in a conference doubleheader. Thursday's DH is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. CT and starts the streak of four consecutive games between the two ACCC foes.
