HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Coastal Alabama South Women's Basketball team, led by head coach Cedric Yelding, came up short in the opening round of the 2024-25 ACCC Women's Basketball Championship Tournament on Thursday, March 6 in Huntsville, Ala., falling to Calhoun (Ala.), 65-55. The Coyotes officially end the season with a 12-19 overall record, while going 5-10 in the ACCC.
How It Happened
Coastal South trailed 17-14 after the opening quarter to Calhoun, while being outscored 22-14 in the second quarter to go into the half with a 39-28 deficit. In the second half, Calhoun bested Coastal South 11-6 in a low scoring third quarter, but had to survive a comeback effort by the Coyotes across the final 10 minutes. Coastal South put up a game-best 21 points in the fourth, but ultimately came up short as Calhoun managed 15Â fourth-quarter points to seal the victory.
Denver Arnold led the Coyotes with 14 points, followed closely by Brooklyn Phillips with 12. Both Arnold and Phillips finished with seven rebounds, one assist, and one block each, with Phillips adding a pair of steals in the loss. Overall, Coastal South shot 26.7% in the losing effort, but finished 10-for-13 at the free throw line. The Coyotes finished with 49 rebounds and seven steals, while turning the ball over 10 times.Â
