JACK ROBERTSON ARENA | BAY MINETTE, Ala. - The 2025-26 season came to a close for the Coastal Alabama - South Women's Basketball team on Thursday, Mar. 5, as the Coyotes fell to No. 5 Shelton State Community College (Ala.) 85-40 in the home finale at Jack Robertson Arena.
Despite a competitive effort throughout the evening, Coastal - South was unable to overcome the nationally ranked Bucs, finishing the season with a 16-13 overall record and a 3-11 mark in Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) Division I play. The Coyotes' pursuit of a berth in the ACCC Division I Women's Basketball Championship Tournament fell short the game prior.
On Thursday, Coastal - South struggled to find a consistent rhythm offensively, finishing the game shooting 37.2 percent (16-of-43) from the field and 18.8 percent (3-of-16) from beyond the arc. The Coyotes added five free throws on 10 attempts while pulling down 39 total rebounds.
Tyra Caves led the Coyotes in scoring with eight points while adding four rebounds and two steals. Kennedy Gill provided a spark off the bench with seven points, two rebounds and two blocks.
Kalaysia Robinson turned in one of the team's strongest efforts on the glass, finishing with a team-high 12 rebounds to go along with six points. Shakira Williams added six points, while Brooklyn Phillips chipped in five points, five rebounds and a block.
The Coyotes also received contributions from Cniya Mullen and Shamiya Oliver, who each finished with four points. Oliver added four rebounds, two steals and a block in the contest.
Defensively, the Coyotes collected nine steals and four blocks but were hindered by turnovers throughout the game, giving the ball away a season-high 35 times.Â
Though the season ended short of postseason play, the Coyotes showed resilience throughout the year while competing in one of the stronger conferences in the NJCAA. Coastal Alabama - South finished the campaign with 16 wins overall, four wins better than last season, while also finishing with a winning record on the year that will build momentum for the program moving forward under the direction of head coach Cedric Yelding.
Thursday's matchup also served as the final home appearance of the season for the Coyotes in Jack Robertson Arena, with several sophomores closing the books of their collegiate careers as a Coastal Alabama Coyote.
