BAY MINETTE, Ala. - Coastal Alabama South Baseball secured a pair of victories over Wallace State - Hanceville (Ala.) on Thursday afternoon, April 24, extending the current win streak to six games. Due to a late schedule change, one of the two wins for Coastal South went down as a forfeit victory, while the Coyotes secured a 9-6 win over the Lions in the lone nine-inning game played.
Coastal South improves to 27-19 overall and 22-8 in the ACCC, remaining in a three-way tie for first place in the current conference standings.Â
Yotes Win in Nine
In the lone game played on Thursday, Coastal South worked a late comeback to keep the winning streak intact. Wallace State - Hanceville opened the scoring with a run in the first inning, later taking a 2-0 lead in the third. In the bottom half of the fourth, the Coyotes pushed across a pair of runs to even the score, 2-2. However, the Lions grabbed the lead right back next half inning with a two-run fifth frame.
Trailing 4-2, Coastal South's offense sparked in the seventh inning and pushed across three runs to take the lead late. One inning later, the Coyotes continued to rally with the bats and added four more runs to extend the lead, 9-4. Wallace State - Hanceville did manage two runs in the ninth, but the big seventh and eighth innings for the Coyotes proved to be the difference.
The Yotes out-hit the Lions 11-9 in the victory, with Seth Payne finishing 3-for-5 with an RBI and run scored. Payne recorded a triple and two singles across his five at-bats. Kennedy Leggett joined Payne with multiple hits in the win, finishing 2-for-3 with an RBI single, and Quincy Walters' three-run home run in the seventh gave the Coyotes the lead for good. Walters added a walk and scored two runs in his 1-for-4 day at the plate.Â
On the mound, Bryson Morman picked up the victory with seven innings of work, allowing seven hits and four runs. Morman walked three and struck out three. Trevor Ferris closed out the game with two innings from out of the 'pen, allowing the two runs in the ninth and picking up a strikeout in the non-save outing.Â
