Men's Tennis Records Program-Best Finish at 2025 NJCAA National Championship Tournament

Coyotes Finished Tied for 13th at National Tournament

FLORENCE, S.C. - The Coastal Alabama South Men's Tennis team, led by head coach Kouri Allen, participated in the 2025 NJCAA D-I Men's Tennis National Championship Tournament from May 12-16, finishing the season by placing tied for 13th overall with with 15.5 points. The 13th-place finish marks the best finish in men's tennis program history at Coastal Alabama South.

The 2025 campaign officially closes with the Coyotes sporting a 15-12 overall record, while finishing 8-2 in the ACCC Conference. The Yotes will remain in the top 25 of the final NJCAA Men's Tennis rankings

National Tournament Highlights
  • For the first time in history, two doubles teams from Coastal Alabama South reached the quarterfinals.
    • In flight one doubles, Coastal South's top pair of Ryan Roberson and Blake Robertson defeated Weatherford College (Tex.) 6-4, 6-2 in the first round and later Prairie State College (Ill.) 6-2, 6-4 in the second round before falling the No. 1 seed Tyler Junior College (Tex.) 1-6, 4-6 in the quarterfinals. 
    • From flight three doubles, David Gimenez and Alvaro Velasco defeated Jones College (Miss.) 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 in three sets to claim a win for the Yotes, while knocking off Eastern Florida State College 7-5, 6-3 in the second round. The duo then fell to the No. 1 seed Cowley College (Kan.) 1-6, 0-6 in the quarterfinals. 
  • For Alvaro Velasco, the freshman Madrid, Spain native claimed the singles consolation championship for the fourth flight of the national tournament. 
    • After falling to the No. 8 seed from Pratt C.C. (Kan.), Velasco went on a strong run across the consolation round. Kenta Kawada from Pratt defeated Velsaco in the first round, eventually winning the flight four championship.
    • On the way to the consolation championship, Velasco collected wins against Weatherford College 8-6, Mesa C.C. (Ariz.) 8-0, Prairie State College 8-4, and worked a comeback after being down 0-3 to defeat Alex Tiffon of Iowa Central 9-7 in the consolation championship match. 
  • Other notable wins across singles play included Nils Guyot from flight five singles, defeating Northwest Mississippi C.C. in the first round, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4.
  • Ryan Roberson also came away with a first-round win, playing from flight six singles action. Roberson defeated Jones College in the first round, 6-2, 6-2.
