Williams Drops 29, but Wallace State’s Hot Shooting Downs Coastal on the Road

Coyotes Fall 108-87 in ACCC Matchup at Hanceville

HANCEVILLE, Ala. - Behind another explosive performance from ACCC leading scorer Josh Williams, Coastal Alabama - South poured in 87 points on the road Thursday night, Jan. 29, but Wallace State - Hanceville's offensive firepower proved too much in a 108-87 conference loss.

Williams continued his dominant season, finishing with 29 points on 8-of-19 shooting while going 12-for-14 at the free throw line. The sophomore guard, who entered the contest averaging a league-best 21.3 points per game, added three assists and a steal in 27 minutes of action. Williams was recently named inside the top 100 players at the JUCO level this season and as the top-ranked JUCO player in the state of Alabama.

Inside the Numbers

The Coyotes shot 40.8 percent from the floor (29-of-71) and knocked down nine three-pointers, but Wallace State countered with a blistering 52.8 percent shooting performance and 14 made threes. The Lions also controlled the glass, outrebounding Coastal 51-30 and turning 16 offensive rebounds into key second-chance opportunities.

Makhi Jones provided a strong interior presence for Coastal, tallying 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting to go along with six rebounds. BJ Cooks added 17 points off the bench, connecting on three shots from beyond the arc, while Jaden Champion chipped in 10 points. Tyler Rivers contributed seven rebounds, and AJ Thompson added seven points with two steals.

Despite balanced scoring, the Coyotes struggled to contain Wallace State's perimeter attack. Sawyer Griffin led the Lions with 24 points, hitting 8-of-13 from three-point range. Viczavious Madden recorded a double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds, and Tyson Barrett added 16 points and 13 boards. Trey Knight (14 points) and Jaeden Rush (12 points) also finished in double figures.

Coastal stayed competitive offensively by getting to the free throw line 27 times and converting 20 attempts, but Wallace State's efficiency and dominance on the boards created separation as the game wore on.

The Coyotes (6-14, 1-6) will look to regroup and tighten up defensively as ACCC play continues, while Williams' consistent production remains a steady force in the heart of conference competition. The 'Yotes are set to host Southern Union State (Ala.) for the next game on the schedule, coming on Monday night, Feb. 2 in Bay Minette. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT.
