MIAMI, Fla. - Coastal Alabama - South Baseball turned in a statement weekend in the Sunshine State, rattling off four consecutive victories against Monroe University (N.Y.) and Miami-Dade College (Fla.) in Miami, Fla. to improve to 4-1 overall on the young 2026 season. The Coyotes, led by head coach JD Pruitt, outscored their opponents 42-8 across the four-game stretch, using dominance on the rubber, timely hitting, and power at the plate during the strong weekend. The four-game weekend series was held on Jan. 30-31.
Game One: Coastal Alabama - South 16, Monroe University 0
The Coyotes opened the weekend in emphatic fashion, blanking Monroe 16-0 behind a dominant performance on the mound and a 13-RBI outburst at the plate.
Bryson Morman set the tone, tossing five shutout innings while allowing just two hits and striking out six. He threw 48 strikes in 62 pitches and did not issue a walk. Chris Floyd and Wilson Moore combined for two scoreless innings to complete the three-hit shutout, as Coastal pitching struck out nine.
Offensively, the Coyotes capitalized on nine hits, four walks, and a flurry of hit batters. Kennedy Leggett led the way, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a double. Jeffrey Diaz launched a three-run home run, while Grayson Roberson added a grand slam for his first homer of the season. Clayton Kimball doubled and drove in a run, and Derek Jelen added a double of his own.
London Prashad scored twice and drove in a run, while Jack Holley reached twice and crossed the plate three times as Coastal erupted for 16 runs.
Game Two: Coastal Alabama - South 7, Miami Dade College 2
The Coyotes followed with a 7-2 win over Miami Dade during the nightcap, using patience at the plate and a steady bullpen effort.
Coastal drew seven walks and swiped three bases, with Brooks Womble stealing two and scoring twice. Tyler DelVecchio provided the big swing with a two-run home run and finished with two RBIs. Grayson Roberson added two RBIs, while Jeffrey Diaz went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.
On the mound, Spencer Nicholas opened the game with three scoreless innings, striking out three. Seth Payne and Trevor Ferris combined to allow two runs over five innings, and Jackson Killcreas closed the door with a scoreless ninth.
Miami Dade managed seven hits, but the Coyotes' pitching staff limited the damage and worked around seven walks to secure the victory.
Game Three: Coastal Alabama - South 10, Monroe University 1
Coastal's pitching dominance continued in the rematch with Monroe the following day, as the Coyotes struck out 15 batters in a 10-1 victory.
Grant Breaux opened with three no-hit innings and four strikeouts. Coleman Capaci allowed Monroe's lone run - a solo homer - over three innings while striking out four. Paxton Stallings fanned five over two scoreless frames, and Harrison Cook struck out two in a clean ninth.
The Coyotes pounded out 13 hits and drew seven walks. Seth Payne went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two stolen bases. Grayson Roberson had a huge day, going 3-for-5 with three doubles and two RBIs. Clayton Kimball crushed a two-run home run, and Derek Jelen added a solo homer and finished with two hits and two RBIs.
Tyler DelVecchio drove in two, and Brooks Womble added two hits as Coastal once again controlled the game from start to finish.
Game Four: Coastal Alabama - South 9, Miami Dade College 5
The Coyotes completed the sweep with a 9-5 victory over Miami Dade, pounding out 14 hits in the finale.
Seth Payne scored three runs and doubled, while Jeffrey Diaz led the offense with a 3-for-5 performance and two RBIs. Tyler DelVecchio went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two walks. Clayton Kimball added two hits, including a home run, and drove in two. Brooks Womble chipped in an RBI and scored twice, and Derek Jelen doubled and scored.
Aiden Hughes earned the start, allowing four runs over three innings while striking out four. John Henry Winstead and Andrew Hicks combined for four scoreless innings in relief to steady the game. The bullpen trio of Austin McCabe, Mytch Deacy, and Jackson Killcreas closed out the contest.
Home Opener Ahead
Following the successful weekend in South Beach, the Coyotes are set for the first home of the 2026 campaign next on the schedule, set for Wednesday, Feb. 4 in Bay Minette. The 'Yotes will host Northwest Florida State College on Wednesday, with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m. CT.
