STANLEY JAMES FIELD | BAY MINETTE, Ala. - Coastal Alabama - South Baseball dropped its 2026 home opener Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 3, falling 21-8 to No. 20 Northwest Florida State at Stanley James Field in Bay Minette. The Coyotes totaled 13 hits and scored in four of the first five innings but were unable to keep pace with the nationally ranked Raiders, who finished with 21 runs on 21 hits in the high-scoring contest. The setback drops Coastal - South's overall record on the young season to 4-2.
How It Happened
Coastal Alabama - South struck early, plating two runs in the second inning before adding three more in the third to take a 5-3 lead. The Coyotes pushed two runs across in the fourth and added another in the fifth to hold an 8-7 advantage midway through the game.
Northwest Florida State responded with a decisive stretch late. After trailing 8-7, the Raiders scored three runs in the sixth inning to regain control, then added two in the eighth and seven in the ninth to pull away. Angel Santiago powered the visitors with two home runs and seven RBI, while Kaden Hart added a pair of home runs and six RBI.
London Prashad and Tyler DelVecchio highlighted the offense for Coastal - South, with Prashad opening the scoring with a two-run home run and Tyler Delvecchi later delivering a three-run homer as part of a productive afternoon that included three walks. Brooks Womble also homered and drove in a run, and Clayton Kimball added two hits and two RBI, while Derek Jelen paced the lineup with three hits.
Nine Coastal - South pitchers saw action in the contest, Austin McCabe earning the start. Chris Floyd highlighted the pitching staff with a 1-2-3 second inning, allowing no hits and striking out a pair of Raiders.
Despite the setback, the Coyotes showcased offensive firepower with three home runs against a nationally ranked opponent in their first home appearance of the 2026 season.
Mississippi Bound on Friday
Coastal Alabama - South will look to regroup as it continues its early-season schedule, with the 'Yotes traveling to Decatur, Miss. for two games on the weekend. The Coyotes will begin the weekend with a 1:30 p.m. CT game against St. Johns River (Fla.) on Feb. 6, following that game with a 4:00 p.m. CT matchup with host-team East Mississippi CC.
Coastal - South will return home to Bay Minette on Feb. 10.
