BAY MINETTE, Ala. - The Coastal Alabama - South Women's Basketball team dropped a home game Thursday night, Feb. 19, falling 70-59 to Calhoun Community College (Ala.) at Jack Robertson Arena. The loss marks the Coyotes' third straight and drops the overall record on the season to 15-10. Additionally, the ACCC record falls to 2-8.
Fourth Quarter Haunts 'Yotes
Coastal - South opened the game strong, taking a 19-14 lead after the first quarter and extending the advantage to 35-23 by halftime. The Coyotes controlled the early tempo behind efficient shooting before Calhoun mounted a second-half comeback.
Calhoun outscored Coastal 21-14 in the third quarter to trim the deficit and then used a 26-10 fourth quarter to pull away and secure the comeback win.
Brooklyn Phillips led Coastal - South with 16 points, knocking down four three-pointers on an efficient 6-of-8 shooting performance. Tyra Caves added 14 points and two assists, while Shamiya Oliver contributed nine points and a team-high eight rebounds. Jordyn Henry finished with five points and three rebounds off the bench, and Shakira Williams added six points in the effort.
As a team, Coastal Alabama - South shot 48.8 percent from the field and 46.2 percent from three-point range while out-rebounding Calhoun 28-26. However, 24 turnovers proved costly as the visitors rallied late to secure the victory.
Headed to Mobile
The Coyotes are set to travel to Mobile, Ala. for an important conference meeting against foe Bishop State (Ala.) next on the schedule, with Monday's game set for 5:30 p.m. CT.
