Coastal Clash Goes to North as Coastal Alabama - South Baseball’s Five-Game Win Streak Ends

Coyotes Tally 13 hits in High-Scoring Road Battle but Fall 15-9 in Brewton

BREWTON, Ala. - Coastal Alabama - South Baseball saw its five-game winning streak come to an end on Tuesday, Mar. 31, falling 15-9 to Coastal Alabama - North in a high-scoring non-divisional matchup on the Brewton campus.

With the loss, the Coyotes from Coastal - South move to 13-21 overall and were unable to avenge an earlier loss to Coastal - North, dropping both meetings in the season series.

Despite the final score, Coastal - South produced a strong offensive showing, totaling 13 hits and scoring in five different innings. The Coyotes struck early with a pair of runs in the second inning and later surged with a four-run fourth inning to keep pace in a back-and-forth contest.

Leading the offensive effort was Aiden Hughes, who went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and a run scored. Derek Jelen also delivered a big performance, finishing 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a walk. Tyler DelVecchio added two hits and scored twice, while Seth Payne chipped in a pair of hits and two RBIs. Carson Carrera contributed with a 2-for-4 outing and an RBI, and Noah Eady added a hit, an RBI, and scored twice as part of the Coyotes attack.

Coastal - South held momentum early, but a pivotal five-run sixth inning by Coastal - North shifted the game. The home team continued to capitalize, plating three more in the eighth to pull away.

On the mound, the Coastal - South utilized multiple arms in an effort to slow down the Coastal - North offense, which tallied 16 hits on the day. John Henry Winstead made the start, allowing two runs over two innings, while Coleman Capaci provided a bright spot out of the bullpen with 1.2 scoreless innings. However, Coastal - North's lineup consistently applied pressure, drawing eight walks and producing timely extra-base hits throughout the contest.

Coastal - South continued to battle late, adding two runs in the eighth inning, but could not overcome the deficit.

What's Next

The Coyotes will look to regroup as they return to conference play next on the schedule, aiming to bounce back after seeing their recent momentum halted. Coastal - South will begin a four-game weekend series with Chattahoochee Valley (Ala.) on Thursday, Apr. 2 at home in Bay Minette, Ala., scheduled for 2:00 p.m. CT.
