JACK ROBERTSON ARENA | BAY MINETTE, Ala. - In the 2026 home-opening match for the Coastal Alabama - South Women's Volleyball team, the Coyotes were blanked across three sets played in a non-conference matchup with Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College on Tuesday, Aug. 25. Despite keeping all three sets relatively close, the Bulldogs managed to run away late in each set and eventually recorded a sweep over the 'Yotes to spoil the home opener inside Jack Robertson Arena.
Mississippi Gulf Coast earned 25-19, 25-17, 25-12 set wins on Tuesday, holding Coastal - South to a -.054 hitting percentage as a team. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs hit .198, tallying 30 total kills in their first match of the year. The Coyotes recorded just 23 kills as a unit, while committing 29 attack errors to fall to 1-1 on the season.
First-year Coyote Sophia Gress led Coastal - South with six kills in the defeat, followed by four players who notched three kills each. Anna Musgrove paced the offense with all 16 of Coastal - South's assists, adding five defensive digs. Meanwhile on the back row, freshman libero Kaylee Worrell managed a high of 22 digs, while McKenna Jackson matched Musgrove with five digs. Coastal - South as a team recorded 53 digs, adding just one block at the net.
It was a match that saw the 'Yotes struggle to gain any momentum, and a night where the focus now shifts towards the next match on the schedule coming Thursday, Aug. 27 against conference rival Bishop State (Ala.) in Mobile, Ala. Thursday's match is set for 6:00 p.m. CT.
