NEW ORLEANS, La. - Coastal Alabama - South Women's Basketball continued its hot start to the 2025-26 season over the weekend with an impressive non-conference road win on Saturday, Dec. 6 against Delgado Community College (La.) in New Orleans. The Coyotes defeated the Dolphins 86-75 behind a second-half comeback and several notable performances, including a career-high from sophomore Brooklyn Phillips.
The overall record improves to 6-1 on the season, with the Yotes continuing non-conference play ahead.
Phillips Goes Off with Massive Double-Double
After trailing 44-34 at halftime, Coastal - South erupted for a 31-point third quarter, flipping a 10-point deficit into a lead the Coyotes never surrendered. Brooklyn Phillips fueled the surge with 18 points in the third period alone, knocking down four threes as the Yotes outscored the Dolphins by 13 in the frame.
Brooklyn Phillips was dominant from start to finish, scoring a game-high 31 points on 11-of-18 shooting from the field and a blistering 5-of-7 from three-point range, while adding 11 rebounds and four assists in 37 minutes. Her 31-point effort marks a new career high and currently sits her fourth in the ACCC by averaging 13 points per game.Â
Phillips was not the only Coyote to shine against Delgado, however, as Shamiya Oliver delivered a huge two-way performance by tallying 18 points, 11 rebounds, and a game-high seven steals to flirt with a triple-double. Tyra Caves also added 18 points, while recording four assists and three steals, while Kalaysia Robinson and Baileigh Lett combined for key early scoring to keep the Coyotes within reach before the second-half surge. The 18 points scored for both Oliver and Caves are career highs.Â
The defensive pressure also swung the momentum, as Coastal - South forced 32 turnovers and turned them into 29 points, while finishing with 23 steals as a team. Coastal - South closed the game with a balanced effort on the glass, finishing with 38 rebounds and 15 offensive boards to extend possessions in crucial moments.
