Box Score WADLEY, Ala. - The season came down to five extra minutes. Already needing help throughout the ACCC, a Monday loss for the Coyotes of Coastal Alabama - South sealed the chances of making the postseason conference tournament.
Coastal Alabama - South Women's Basketball saw its postseason hopes come to a close on Monday night, Mar. 2, falling 77-70 in overtime to Southern Union State Community College (Ala.) on the road in Wadley in ACCC D-I action. The loss drops the overall record to 16-12 this season, with the conference record falling to 3-10 in the ACCC.
The Coyotes shot the ball well on Monday, recording an efficient 50.9 shooting percentage from the floor (27-of-53) and finished 70 percent (14-of-20) from the free-throw line, forcing overtime in a tightly contested battle. However, Southern Union capitalized at the stripe throughout the night, converting 29-of-46 free throws, which proved to be the difference in the 77-70 final.
Shakira Williams led Coastal - South with 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting, adding four made free throws. Shamiya Oliver followed with 17 points and five rebounds, going 6-of-11 from the field and 5-of-6 at the line. Brooklyn Phillips contributed 10 points, while Tyra Caves added seven points and two rebounds.
Off the bench, Kennedy Gill provided a spark with nine points on 3-of-5 shooting and 3-of-4 from the line. Naomi Whack chipped in four points, and Kalaysia Robinson controlled the glass for the Coyotes, pulling down a team-high eight rebounds as Coastal finished with just 25 total boards in the loss.
Southern Union was paced by Takeriauna Mosley's game-high 23 points. Additionally, the Bison managed to control the boards, 40-25.
Coastal's defensive effort limited Southern Union to just 28.2 percent shooting (22-of-78) from the floor and 17.4 percent (4-of-23) from three-point range. The Coyotes also held their own inside, blocking two shots and forcing competitive possessions throughout regulation.
With the score knotted at the end of regulation, Coastal battled in overtime but was unable to overcome Southern Union's trips to the free-throw line down the stretch. The loss eliminates the Coyotes from ACCC Division I postseason contention.
Though the season will end short of a tournament berth, Coastal Alabama - South will close its campaign with a winning record as the regular season finale waits on the horizon.
Sophomore Night / Season Finale
The Coyotes will wrap up the 2025-26 season on Thursday night, Mar. 5 in Jack Robertson Arena, hosting Shelton State Community College (Ala.) in the process. Thursday's game is scheduled to tip off at 5:30 p.m. CT in Bay Minette and will be broadcasted live on JockJive.com. Following the game, graduating sophomores will be honored from the Coastal Alabama - South Women's Basketball program.
