BAY MINETTE, Ala. – Coastal Alabama - South Women's Volleyball came out firing in front of its home crowd Tuesday night, Oct. 21, but couldn't hold off a late surge from Mississippi Gulf Coast, dropping a hard-fought five-set match (25-19, 25-23, 18-25, 21-25, 8-15) in the final match inside Jack Robertson Arena for the year. Despite claiming the first two sets, Miss. Gulf Coast managed to fight back and hand the Coyotes' their 19th loss of the season, with the overall record now sitting at 11-19.
How It Happened
The Coyotes looked dominant early, using aggressive serving and sharp net play to claim the first two sets. However, the Bulldogs regrouped, finding their rhythm offensively to take the next three frames and steal the match. Elizabeth McMillan led the Coastal - South attack with 13 kills and two block assists, while Zion Paden also turned in a standout performance, registering 12 kills and four block assists. Anique Self had a strong all-around effort with seven kills, a team-high six service aces, and 19 digs, while Kameryn Browne added 11 kills.
At the setter position, Anna Musgrove dished out 26 assists to go with two aces and eight digs, and Maggie Shorter provided 18 assists and 14 digs, helping the Coyotes stay competitive throughout the night. Defensively, Gracie Duncan joined Self and Shorter's team-highs in digs with 12 on the night. The Coyotes tallied 71 digs and registered eight block assists in the defeat.
The offense for Coastal Alabama - South tallied 52 kills, 10 service aces, while hitting .142 for the match.
Regular Season Finale Ahead
Coastal - South will look to rebound in its next outing as the squad continues to build toward postseason form. The Yotes' next conference matchup is a must-win as Coastal currently sits tied for the final spot in the ACCC Volleyball South Division standings with Bishop State (Ala.). The Coyotes are back in action on Thursday, Oct. 23 at 5:00 p.m. CT with a road matchup against Lurleen B. Wallace Community College (LBW) in Andalusia, Ala.
