MONROEVILLE, Ala. - Coastal Alabama - South Men's Basketball secured its first victory of the 2025-26 season in dramatic fashion Thursday night, Nov. 13, edging Coastal Alabama - North 91-89 on the road in Monroeville, Ala. The Coyotes from Bay Minette shot an even 50% from the field and knocked down a whopping 14 three-pointers to outlast Coastal - North in a high-scoring sibling rivalry to improve to 1-5 overall on the year.
How It Happened
Coastal - South built early momentum with 45 first-half points, but Coastal - North responded with a strong run of its own to take a 49-45 lead into the break. In the second half, Coastal - South's perimeter shooting and late-game poise proved decisive, outscoring Coastal - North 46-40 to complete the comeback and secure the victory.
Josh Williams delivered a standout performance for the Coastal - South Coyotes, posting a team-high 24 points on 7-of-9 shooting, including 3-of-4 from beyond the arc, while adding seven rebounds, five assists, and four steals. Williams currently averages over 17 points per game through six games on the young season. Meanwhile, AJ Thompson added 22 points on 9-of-13 shooting with three made threes and Jaden Champion joined the double-figure party with 10 points in the two-point win.
Coastal - South's depth proved crucial, with nine different players scoring and five reaching at least six points. BJ Cooks supplied nine points off the bench, while Terrance Adams and Bryce Bracco each added key shots from long range. As a team, Coastal - South shot 42.4% from three and assisted on 19 of its 31 total field goals.
Coastal Alabama – North was led by a dominant outing from Bryce Wilkins, who recorded a game-high 26 points and 13 rebounds on 8-of-10 shooting. Chimeziri Okeoma added 16 points with three made threes, and Bryson Holmes chipped in 11 points and seven rebounds. Coastal - North strongly controlled the glass with a 44-24 rebounding advantage but was hindered by 18 turnovers.
In a matchup featuring efficient offense from both sides, each team finished at 50% shootig. However, Coastal - South's timely stops and perimeter success down the stretch proved to be the difference.
Looking to Build Momentum
With the first win of the season in the books, Coastal Alabama - South is set to return to the court on Monday, Nov. 17, hosting the JV squad of the University of Mobile (Ala.) in a non-divisional game. Monday's game is set for 7:30 p.m. CT and will be played in Jack Robertson Arena in Bay Minette.
