JACK ROBERTSON ARENA | BAY MINETTE, Ala. - After a perfect 4-0 start to the 2025-26 campaign, the Coastal Alabama - South Women's Basketball team dropped its first game of the season on Thursday, Nov. 20, falling to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College 60-35 in a non-conference meeting in Bay Minette. The loss comes 10 days after the Coyotes last took the court, with the team winning a 71-53 game over Wallace - Selma (Ala.) in the home opener back on Nov. 10.
Coastal - South Women's Basketball now sees the first blemish of the year with the overall record dropping to 4-1 following Thursday's showing ahead of three-straight road contests.
Offense Struggles in Home Loss
The Coyotes could not get anything going offensively against the Bulldogs on Thursday, scoring just eight points in the first quarter, while following that with a five-point second quarter performance. Meanwhile, MGCCC managed 31 first-half points, taking a commanding lead to the break. In the second half, the Yotes were outscored 16-15 in the third quarter, which eventually proved to be the best quarter of the night for Coastal - South. In the fourth, Coastal - South was only able to muster seven points to finish the game at 35.
The offense shot just 37.5% on Thursday night, making only 15 of 40 shot attempts from the floor. Additionally, the Yotes finished 2-for-15 from three-point range and 3-for-9 from the foul line. Kennedy Gill led all players on Coastal - South's side with nine points from off the bench, followed by Baileigh Lett with 10 bench points. Starters Brooklyn Phillips and Cniya Mullen combined for 11 points, with Phillips leading the team with seven rebounds. As a team, the Coyotes gave the ball away 25 times, allowing MGCCC add-on points throughout the contest.
Road Stretch Ahead
Coming off the tough loss, the Yotes hit the road to Montgomery, Ala. for a non-divisional matchup with Huntingdon College (Ala.) next on the schedule. Coastal - South's game against Huntingdon is set for after Thanksgiving on Tuesday, Dec. 2 at 3:30 p.m. CT.
