Women's Basketball Falls to No. 18 Wallace State - Hanceville, 42-37

Yotes Held to Single Digits in Three Quarters Thursday Night

Box Score

BAY MINETTE, Ala. - The Coastal Alabama - South Women's Basketball team dropped a 42-37 decision at home to No. 18 Wallace State Community College - Hanceville (Ala.) on Thursday night, Feb. 26 in ACCC Division I action.

The Coyotes were limited offensively throughout the contest, scoring in single digits in the first, second and fourth quarters. Despite a strong defensive effort that kept the nationally-ranked Lions within reach, Coastal - South was unable to generate enough scoring down the stretch to secure the conference win.

Shamiya Oliver paced the Coyotes with 10 points on 3-of-5 shooting from the floor and a perfect 4-of-4 mark at the free-throw line. Oliver also recorded a team-high 10 rebounds to finish with a double-double. Kalaysia Robinson controlled the glass with a game-high 13 rebounds, including four offensive boards, while adding four points and four blocks. Brooklyn Phillips contributed seven points and five rebounds, and Jordyn Henry provided a spark off the bench with five points, converting 5-of-6 attempts at the foul line.

As a team, Coastal Alabama - South shot just 31.4 percent (11-of-35) from the field and 13.3 percent (2-of-15) from three-point range, while knocking down 13-of-17 free throws (76.5 percent). The Coyotes totaled 35 rebounds and finished with five blocked shots defensively.

With the loss, Coastal - South currently sits seventh out of eight teams in the ACCC Division I standings as the regular season winds down. The overall record falls to 16-11, while the conference record drops to 3-9. With just two regular season games remaining, the 'Yotes must win out and see help from other teams in order to make the postseason tournament.

Final Road Game Ahead

The Coyotes are scheduled to return to the court on Monday, Mar. 2, wrapping up the regular season road schedule with a conference game against Southern Union State (Ala.) in Wadley, Ala. Monday's game is scheduled to tip off at 5:30 p.m. CT as Southern Union managed a 68-65 victory over the Coyotes back on Feb. 2 in Bay Minette.
