MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Coastal Alabama - South Women's Basketball picked up a strong road victory on Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 2, defeating Huntingdon College JV (Ala.) 62-46 behind a decisive second-quarter surge. The win comes one game following the Coyotes' first loss of the year, with the overall record jumping to 5-1 on the season.
The Highlights
After trailing 9-8 through the opening period, the Coyotes responded with a dominant 21-point second quarter to take control of the game. Coastal - South outscored Huntingdon 21-8 in the frame, building a halftime lead they would not relinquish. The Yotes then added 17 points and 16 points across the third and fourth quarters, sealing the 16-point win after Huntingdon was only able to tally 29 second-half points.
Brooklyn Phillips powered the offense with a season-high 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting while adding eight rebounds to flirt with a double-double. Kalaysia Robinson delivered a standout performance of her own, totaling 14 points and eight rebounds to also close in on a double-double performance. Meanwhile, Kennedy Gill provided a spark off the bench, scoring 11 points including two three-pointers to help extend Coastal - South's lead in the second half. Tyra Caves added seven points, two assists, and three steals, while Shakira Williams chipped in five points from off the bench.
Coastal - South finished the afternoon shooting 41.4 percent from the field and 55% from the free-throw line. The Coyotes totaled 28 rebounds in the win, with 10 coming on the offensive side.
Non-Conference Road Play Continues
Following the win over Huntingdon, Coastal Alabama - South Women's Basketball continues to build momentum as non-conference play rolls on. The Coyotes are back on the road this upcoming Saturday, Dec. 6, traveling to New Orleans, La. for a non-conference meeting with Delgado Community College (La.) for the next game on the schedule.
Saturday's game is set to tip off at 2:00 p.m. CT.
