DECATUR, Ala. - The Coastal Alabama North and South Men's Golf teams returned to the course earlier in the week and competed at the Calhoun Spring Classic in Decatur, Ala. For the Coastal South Men's Golf team, the Coyotes came away with a top-10 finish, placing 10th overall with a team score of 925 (+61) across three rounds of play. Meanwhile, the Coastal North Coyotes managed a 12th-place finish, tallying a 929 (+65). A total of 14 teams competed at this year's Calhoun Spring Classic, with Central Alabama winning the tournament by finishing just one stroke above par.
Coastal South Results
Austin Vilborg paced Coastal South during the two-day tournament in north Alabama, with the freshman placing 15th overall with a +8. Vilborg opened tournament play with a -1 in round one, but shot eight strokes above par across the second round. In round three, Vilborg managed a +1 to jump 10 spots on the final day. "Really proud of him," said Coastal Alabama South Men's Golf Coach Lee Huggins. "He [Vilborg] started hitting a 2-Iron off the tee and changed his putting grip. Made a world of difference."
Jake Temple followed Vilborg with a 25th-place finish, notching a +12 in the process. Temple got better in each round as the tournament rolled on, finishing round three just two strokes above par after shooting a +3 in the second round. Temple's round three performance jumped him 11 spots on the final day.
Other results included Zachary Smith in 46th with a +19, Brant White in 54th with a +22, and Steven Shelton in 63rd with a +29. A total of 73 entrants competed at the Calhoun Spring Classic.
Coastal North Results
For the Coastal North Coyotes, Jackson Cleveland paced all Coyotes from both teams with a 14th-place finish. Cleveland finished just seven strokes above par, with his best round coming in round one where he finished with a +1. Cleveland then followed that with a +4 in round two and a +2 in the third and final round. His tournament was highlighted by an eagle made on the par-five 16th hole in round two.
Following Cleveland was Ty Posey in 42nd and Logan Barnes in 46th. Posey managed a +18, while Barnes finished one stroke worse at +19. Lucas Chalk then followed with a +21 in 52nd overall, with Gabe Patterson bringing up the rear with a +37 in 69th overall.
