BAY MINETTE, Ala. — The Coastal Alabama South Baseball program officially announced on Monday the hiring of Kaleb Schmidt as the new pitching coach for the Coyotes ahead of the 2026 season. Schmidt joins Coastal South following a season which saw the Coyotes finish 30-26 overall in 2025 and third in the ACCC D-I Baseball standings. He will work exclusively with the pitching staff under the direction of head coach JD Pruitt.
Schmidt brings a wealth of experience to his new role, both as a professional pitcher and as a highly regarded instructor and collegiate coach. Most recently, he served as the Assistant and Pitching Coach at Lee University (Tenn.), where he played a key role in developing a standout pitching staff that included a Conference Pitcher of the Year, two All-Region selections, and an All-American.
A former collegiate standout himself, Schmidt pitched for both the University of Central Arkansas and Drury University (Mo.), where he was named team captain and known for his leadership on and off the field. He logged over 116 innings across four seasons of collegiate baseball, tallying 121 strikeouts. His professional playing career includes time in the Frontier League and the Pioneer League, including international stints in Canada.
In addition to his playing and coaching credentials, Schmidt has extensive experience as a private pitching instructor, youth development leader, and pitching coordinator. His coaching approach blends data-driven tools like Trackman, Rapsodo, and high-speed motion capture with individualized development programs focused on mechanical efficiency, recovery, and competitive mindset.
Schmidt will begin working under head coach JD Pruitt during the offseason, with the 2026 season set to begin in early 2026.
