BAY MINETTE, Ala. - Coastal Alabama - South Women's Volleyball fell across two non-divisional matches over the last week, dropping a five-set thriller to John Melvin University (Fla.) on Sept. 10 and falling in straight sets to Pensacola Christian College (Fla.) over the weekend on Sept. 13. Both matches were played at home in Bay Minette as the overall record on the season falls to 4-11.
Yotes Fall in Five to JMU
Against the Mohawks of John Melvin, the Coyotes mounted a comeback but just fell short of a victory. JMU took each of the first two sets 25-21 and 25-23, but the Yotes bounced back and secured 25-18, 25-10 set wins across the third and fourth sets. However, the Mohawks survived the comeback and took the fifth and final set 15-12 to earn the match win.
Ella Kyker put up historic numbers in the loss to John Melvin, coming away with 28 kills to pace the offense. Kyker recorded 55 total attacks and committed just three errors, hitting .455 across the match. Her 28 kills is a season high and team high on the season. Chloe Collison followed with 13 kills, adding two service aces and two blocks. Collison hit .273 as Coastal - South finished with a .190 team hitting percentage.
Anna Musgrove and Kameryn Browne directed the attack by combining for 50 assists in the loss, with Musgrove tallying 31 and Browne totaling 19. Meanwhile, the defense racked up 88 digs, with five players recording double-digit dig totals. Anique Self paced the Coyotes with a season-high 19 digs, while Sophie Sanchez came away with 15. At the net, Coastal - South recorded eight total blocks.
Coastal Swept by PCC
Later in the week, Pensacola Christian came to town and took a three-set win away from the Coyotes. PCC won 25-18, 25-14, 25-18 to earn the sweep.
Chloe Collison secured a team-high eight kills in the loss, followed by Ella Kyker with four. Collison went on to add four block assists to her attack numbers. Meanwhile, Harper Cooley led the defense with digs as Anna Musgrove paced the team with 17 assists. Musgrove added seven digs to her numbers against the Eagles.
Overall, Coastal - South only hit .101 against PCC, recording just four aces, 43 digs, and four total blocks.
