BAY MINETTE, Ala. – Coastal Alabama - South Women's Volleyball battled wire-to-wire but came up short in a five-set heartbreaker against Gadsden State (Ala.) on Friday night, Sept. 19. The Coyotes fell by scores of 16-25, 25-21, 20-25, 26-24, 9-15 and saw the overall record drop to 5-13 and 2-4 in the ACCC.
Match Highlights
Ella Kyker led Coastal - South with a team-high 16 kills to go along with six blocks and four digs. Kameryn Browne chipped in eight kills and four blocks, while setter Maggie Shorter ran the offense with 15 assists, four aces, and four digs. Defensively, Anna Musgrove and Anique Self led the way with 13 digs a piece.
The Coyotes showed grit in the fourth set, fending off match point and rallying for a 26-24 win to force a decisive fifth. However, Gadsden State's defense stiffened in the final frame, holding Coastal-South to just five kills and capitalizing on timely runs to secure the match.
As a team, the Coyotes tallied 44 kills, 16 aces, and 69 digs, but were undone by 33 attack errors. Despite the setback, Coastal - South showcased its fight and resilience in front of the home crowd.
Home Stretch Continues Monday
The Yotes are back in action at home on Monday evening, Sept. 22, with Coastal - South hosting Wallace - Selma (Ala.) for a conference showing at 5:00 p.m. CT. Monday's match will be broadcasted live on JockJive.com.
