Box Score JACK ROBERTSON ARENA | BAY MINETTE, Ala. - The Coastal Alabama - South Women's Basketball team earned its second victory over Reid State Community College (Ala.) in the same week, completing a home-and-home sweep with a 61-46 win on Thursday afternoon, Jan. 8 in the first game back at Jack Robertson Arena during the calendar year. The Coyotes rolled in both games, outscoring the Lions by a combined score of 139-92. Additionally, the win is Coastal - South's 10th victory of the year, improving the overall record to 10-2 this season.
Coyotes Outlast Lions Again
The 'Yotes set the tone early, jumping out to a 21-7 lead after the first quarter and never looking back. Coastal - South maintained control throughout the contest, outscoring Reid State in each of the first three quarters to build a comfortable advantage heading into the final period. At the halftime break, the Coyotes took a 31-16 lead to the locker room, adding 30 more points in the second half. Meanwhile, Reid State's offense picked up some in the final 20 minutes, also totaling 30 points in the half. However, the large first half deficit proved to be too much in the end to overcome.
Coastal - South's Kennedy Gill led all scorers with 15 points, knocking down five three-pointers off the bench to spark the Coyotes' offense. Brooklyn Phillips added nine points and a team-high nine rebounds, while Tyra Caves chipped in eight points and Shamiya Oliver finished with seven. Shakira Williams joined Gill with bench production, scoring eight points in the victory.
The 'Yotes connected on 11 three-pointers in the game, making it three-straight contests where Coastal - South has finished in double figures from three-point range. The Coyotes' defense held Reid State to just 46 points, forcing tough shots throughout the afternoon. Coastal - South also totaled 43 rebounds in the win and finished with 16 assists on 23 made field goals (35.9%).
Non-Conference Play Continues Saturday
With Coastal Alabama - South pocketing a couple of victories over Reid State, the Coyotes return to Jack Robertson Arena on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 10 and will host Delgado CC (La.) in an attempt to build momentum following the two-game sweep of the Lions. Saturday's game is scheduled to tip off at 2:00 p.m. CT.
