Box Score SELMA, Ala. - Coastal Alabama - South Women's Basketball earned a hard-fought 47-40 non-divisional road victory over Wallace Community College - Selma (Ala.) on Monday evening, Feb. 9, improving to 15-7 overall on the season. The Coyotes are already three wins better than last season's total, with 'Yotes still scheduled for seven more ACCC contests during the regular season.
How It Happened
The Coyotes overcame a slow start offensively to pull away in the second half. Coastal - South trailed 12-5 after the opening quarter but responded by outscoring Wallace - Selma 13-10 in the second period to cut the deficit to 22-18 at halftime. The Coyotes continued to chip away in the third quarter, putting together their most productive offensive stretch with 16 points to take control. Coastal - South then sealed the victory in the fourth, holding Wallace - Selma to just eight points over the final 10 minutes.
Brooklyn Phillips led the Coyotes with 13 points, shooting 4-of-9 from the field, including two three-pointers, while adding eight rebounds. Cniya Mullen provided a spark off the bench with seven points on 3-of-4 shooting. Naomi Whack contributed six points and seven rebounds, while Tyra Caves added five points.
On the glass, Coastal - South controlled the game with a 47-rebound performance. Kalaysia Robinson pulled down a team-best 10 rebounds, Shamiya Oliver added nine boards, and Maya Griffin chipped in five rebounds and five steals.
Despite shooting 29.4% from the floor and 23.5% from three-point range, the Coyotes capitalized on second-chance opportunities and defensive pressure, forcing key stops late to secure the seven-point road win.
Hosting Gadsden State Next
Coastal Alabama - South will return to conference play in its next outing as the Coyotes continue the stretch run toward postseason play. The 'Yotes will host Gadsden State (Ala.) on Thursday night at 5:30 p.m. CT in Bay Minette, looking for revenge after an 88-78 overtime loss to the Cardinals back on Jan. 15.
