VETERANS PARK | ALABASTER, Ala. - After battling through the elimination bracket as the tournament's No. 6 seed over the weekend, Coastal Alabama - South Softball saw its 2026 season come to a close in the semifinals of the ACCC Division I Softball Championship Tournament at Veterans Park in Alabaster, Ala.
The Coyotes finished the year with a 31-26 overall record and a 16-16 mark in conference play under the direction of head coach Mallory Radwitch.
Tournament Recap
Facing an uphill climb from the opening round, Coastal Alabama - South responded with resilience, winning back-to-back elimination games before falling to nationally-ranked Wallace State - Hanceville (Ala.) one game shy of the championship final.
In the opening game of the tournament on May 14, the Coyotes were defeated by Shelton State (Ala.), 7-0. Coastal managed just four hits and three walks offensively, while striking out 11 times in the loss. Riley Dunnam accounted for three of the team's four hits, finishing a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, while Sydni Carpenter went 1-for-2 with a walk.
With its season on the line in an elimination matchup against Gadsden State the following day, Coastal - South erased an early deficit to claim a thrilling 10-9 victory. The Coyotes trailed 5-0 early and 6-2 after four innings before exploding for seven runs in the fifth inning. Coastal later pushed across the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning to complete the comeback.
Sydni Carpenter delivered one of the best performances of her 2026 season, finishing 3-for-3 with her 18th home run of the year, two doubles, two RBIs, two walks and a run scored, all while matching the program's single-season home run record (18). Charlotte Lottinger added a massive performance of her own, going 1-for-4 with a home run, five RBIs and two runs scored. Addy Stein finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Mackenzie Boullon added a double and a run.
The Coyotes continued their elimination bracket run that same day with a 7-5 victory over Calhoun (Ala.) in the next round. Carpenter again powered the offense, blasting her 19th home run of the season to officially break the program's single-season home run record. She finished 1-for-2 with two RBIs, two walks and two runs scored. Meanwhile, Boullon added a key home run and drove in four runs in the victory, while Dunnam stayed red-hot at the plate with a perfect 4-for-4 performance that included a double, RBI and run scored. Stein also contributed a double in the win.
The following day, Coastal Alabama - South's postseason run ended in the semifinals with an 8-4 loss to Wallace State - Hanceville. Carpenter capped off her historic season and career with Coastal Alabama with another standout performance, finishing 3-for-3 with her 20th home run of the year, a double, RBI, walk and three runs scored. Ava Gradick added two hits and a run scored, while Dunnam drove in two runs and reached base twice.
The tournament run highlighted the fight and determination of the Coyotes, who battled from the bottom seed position to the semifinal round while producing several memorable postseason performances. Carpenter's record-breaking tournament performance also cemented one of the most productive offensive seasons in program history, finishing the year with 20 home runs.
