STANLEY JAMES FIELD | BAY MINETTE, Ala. - Coastal Alabama - South Baseball capped its 2026 campaign on a high note Sunday afternoon, May 3, earning a doubleheader sweep over Gadsden State (Ala.) on Sophomore Day at home in Bay Minette, Ala. The Coyotes secured a dramatic 2-1 walk-off victory in game one before rolling to a 10-0 run-rule win in six innings in the finale.
Late Heroics Lift Coyotes in Game One
In the opener on Sunday, Coastal - South used timely hitting and a strong outing on the mound to edge the Cardinals, 2-1. With Gadsden State leading 1-0 entering the bottom of the sixth inning, Coastal's Tyler DelVecchio came up with a clutch game-tying RBI double to even the game at one run apiece. One inning later, Brooks Womble delivered the decisive swing, launching a walk-off solo home run to seal the victory. Womble's game-winning homer was his fifth long ball of the 2026 season.Â

Meanwhile, Trevor Ferris was outstanding on the mound, tossing a complete game while allowing just four hits and one unearned run over seven innings. He issued two walks and struck out three in a composed, efficient performance, earning the win in his final appearance with the Coyotes.

Offensively, the Coyotes tallied six hits, highlighted by DelVecchio who finished a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with the game-tying double and a walk. Seth Payne (1-for-3, run), Derek Jelen (1-for-3), and Noah Eady (1-for-2) also contributed at the plate.
Coyotes Cruise to Run-Rule Victory in Season Finale
Coming off the walk-off win earlier in the afternoon, Coastal - South carried its momentum into game two, erupting for 10 runs on 10 hits in a dominant 10-0 victory that ended after six innings.
Carson Carrera provided the biggest blow of the day, blasting a grand slam (3) as part of a four-RBI performance. Seth Payne added to the offensive surge with a home run (3), finishing 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a walk.
Tyler DelVecchio continued his strong day at the plate, driving in three runs while going 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored. Derek Jelen added a multi-hit performance, going 2-for-4 with a double, RBI, and two runs, while Brooks Womble chipped in with a double and a run scored.
On the mound, John Henry Winstead earned the win with three solid innings, allowing just five hits and no runs while striking out a batter. Chris Floyd closed out the game with two scoreless frames from out of the bullpen, allowing only one hit and striking out a pair.
Season Wrap-Up
Under the leadership of head coach JD Pruitt, the Coyotes conclude the 2026 season with a 21-33 overall record and a 13-23 mark in ACCC Division I play. Coastal - South, who battled key injuries all season long, narrowly missed qualification for the conference tournament but closed the year with momentum and a memorable Sophomore Day sweep.
The program now turns its focus toward offseason development and building for the 2027 campaign.
