BAY MINETTE, Ala. - The Coastal Alabama South Baseball team officially wrapped up the regular season portion of the 2025 campaign on Sunday evening, May 4, with the Coyotes dropping a four-game series against Gadsden State (Ala.) that began on Thursday, May 1. The two teams split an afternoon doubleheader on Thursday, with Coastal South winning its lone game of the series 9-8 in game two. However, Gadsden State responded and swept the Coyotes across a doubleheader in Bay Minette on Sunday to secure the series win.
Additionally, Sunday's games were the final games of the 2025 season in Bay Minette for Coastal Alabama South Baseball as several graduating sophomores were honored pregame.Â
Both teams will now head to Oxford, Ala. and compete at the 2025 ACCC D-I Baseball Championship Tournament on May 8-10, with Coastal Alabama South securing the No. 3 seed of the six-team field. The Coyotes finished the regular season with a 28-24 overall record and 23-13 record in the conference.
Series Highlights
Across Thursday's action, Coastal South and Gadsden State combined for 28 runs in 16 innings played. The Cardinals earned a 7-4 victory in game one, which was a scheduled seven-inning contest, out-hitting the Yotes, 12-10. Caden Mason led the Coastal South offense with two RBIs, while collecting two hits in the loss.
In game two, the Coyotes bounced back and held off Gadsden State by one run in extra innings, picking up a 9-8 victory in the nightcap. Adison Scott finished 3-for-5 with two home runs and three RBIs in the win, while Silas Cunningham managed a 3-for-5 line with a home run and a double. Cunningham led the team by driving home four runs. Caden Mason came away with the decisive hit, connecting with a go-ahead solo homer in the top of the 10th inning. From there, Trevor Ferris tossed a scoreless bottom half of the 10th to earn the win on the mound. Coastal South out-hit Gadsden State 15-13 in the game two victory.
On Sunday, both offenses showed again as 34 runs were scored in the 16 innings played. The Cardinals scored a 10-9 win over Coastal South in game one, using a four-run sixth inning to work the comeback. Drake McBride led the Yotes' offense with three RBIs, recording a bases-clearing double in the bottom of the first inning. Derek Jelen followed with two RBIs, finishing 1-for-3 at the plate.Â
In the nightcap, Gadsden State ran away with the game early and managed an 11-4 victory to secure the series. Adison Scott came away with two home runs and four RBIs in the loss, being responsible for all four runs the Coyotes scored. Scott finished the four-game set with Gadsden State with four homers. Gadsden State out-hit Coastal South 13-6 in the final game of the regular season.
ACCC Tournament Ahead
With the Coyotes earning the No. 3 seed, Coastal South is scheduled to begin postseason play on Thursday afternoon, May 8 in Oxford, Ala., facing Chattahoochee Valley (Ala.) at 2:00 p.m. CT. The ACCC D-I Baseball Championship Tournament will be played at Choccolocco Park in Oxford and will be broadcasted live on JockJive Sports YouTube.
