STANLEY JAMES FIELD | BAY MINETTE, Ala. - Coastal Alabama - South Baseball secured a key conference series victory over Lawson State (Ala.) this weekend, splitting a doubleheader on the final day in Bay Minette, Ala. to claim the series, 3-1. The Coyotes opened the weekend set by winning both games in Birmingham, Ala. over the Cougars on Apr. 9. Despite dropping the opener at home, Coastal responded in emphatic fashion in the finale behind a power-packed offensive performance to seal the series win.
The 'Yotes now stand at 17-25 overall and 9-15 in ACCC Division I play, continuing their recent momentum with wins in four of their last five games.
Game One: Lawson State 9, Coastal Alabama - South 5
The Coyotes showed flashes offensively in the first game but were unable to overcome Lawson State's early surge in a 9-5 setback.
Kennedy Leggett led the charge at the plate in the defeat, going 2-for-2 with a home run, RBI, two walks, and a run scored. Aiden Hughes added a 2-for-3 effort with a double, RBI, walk, and run, while London Prashad chipped in with a double, RBI, and run.
However, Lawson State capitalized on a four-run sixth inning that eventually put the game out of reach.
Game Two: Coastal Alabama - South 14, Lawson State 4 (5 Innings)
Coastal - South left no doubt in the series finale, erupting for 14 runs in a run-rule victory in just five innings to clinch the series.
Kennedy Leggett continued his big day at Stanley James Field and delivered a monster performance, blasting two home runs and driving in five runs while scoring twice in a 2-for-4 outing. Meanwhile, Grayson Roberson was perfect at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a home run, double, three RBIs, and two runs scored, and Sean Greene added to the home run barrage with a three-run shot.
Additionally, Seth Payne continued the offensive onslaught with three hits, including a double, and crossed the plate three times. On the mound, John Henry Winstead tossed a complete five-inning effort, allowing four runs on five hits while striking out two to earn the win.
The Coyotes' explosive response in the series finale assisted in securing a pivotal conference series win as the regular season progresses throughout the final month.
Headed to T-Town
Coastal Alabama - South Baseball travels to Tuscaloosa, Ala. next on the schedule, looking to carry its momentum into the upcoming ACCC series against the top team in the conference standings in Shelton State Community College (Ala.). Thursday's doubleheader is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. CT.
