JACK ROBERTSON ARENA - BAY MINETTE, Ala. - The Coastal Alabama - South Women's Volleyball team, led by longtime head coach Ritchie Dulaney, opened the 2025 season with a 1-1 record after a pair of home matches on Saturday, August 23 at the Bay Minette campus. The Coyotes dropped their season opener to Mississippi Gulf Coast in four sets (12-25, 25-22, 20-25, 14-25) before bouncing back with a strong three-set sweep over United States Sports University (Ala.), 25-5, 25-10, 25-20.
In the opener against Mississippi Gulf Coast, sophomore setter Anna Musgrove turned in a strong all-around effort with 15 assists, four service aces, and four digs, while Mariah Mayes paced the attack with nine kills, adding six digs. Elizabeth McMillan followed Mayes with six kills. Defensively, Ella Kyker led the Yotes with three blocks, while libero Sophie Sanchez collected seven digs in the four-set match. As a team, Coastal South finished with an .058 hitting percentage, 33 digs, and 23 assists in the season opener.
Coastal Alabama - South regrouped in the afternoon contest, hitting .317 as a team to power past USSU in straight sets. Freshman Ella Kyker led the way with a match-high nine kills on a .571 hitting line, while Mariah Mayes added seven kills and two service aces. Anna Musgrove once again directed the offense with 14 assists, and Kameryn Browne contributed three aces and seven digs. Wendy Reyes Duenas joined Browne with three aces in the victory as the Coyotes totaled 11 aces as a unit against the Eagles.
Monday Night Action on the Road
Following the Yotes' 1-1 start, Coastal South is set for the first road match of the 2025 season on Monday night, Aug. 25, coming against Mississippi Gulf Coast in Perkinston, Miss. Monday's matchup is set to begin at 6:00 p.m. CT as the Coyotes look to avenger the season opener against the Bulldogs.
