JACK ROBERTSON ARENA | BAY MINETTE, Ala. - Coastal Alabama - South suffered an 88-76 loss to Lawson State Community College (Ala.) on Monday night, Jan. 19 inside Jack Robertson Arena, as the visiting Cougars pulled away with a big 52-point second half. The loss for the 'Yotes is the second consecutive, with the overall record falling to 5-12 on the season and 0-2 in the ACCC Division I.
How It Happened
Lawson State held a slim 36-34 advantage at halftime before using the 52-point second half to create separation and secure the road win. Coastal Alabama - South battled throughout, adding 42 points during the final 20 minutes, but struggled to find consistency offensively, shooting just 31.8% from the field and 26.7% from three-point range for the game.
Josh Williams led the 'Yotes again, recording a strong all-around performance by pouring in a game-high 27 points on 9-of-17 shooting, including three three-pointers, while going a perfect 6-for-6 at the free throw line. Williams also added six rebounds, two steals, and a block in 30 minutes of action. He continues to lead to ACCC by averaging 20.6 points per game for the year.
Makhi Jones finished with nine points and six rebounds, while Jaden Champion and Christian Little provided a spark off the bench, scoring nine and 10 points, respectively. Tyler Rivers controlled the glass for Coastal Alabama - South, pulling down a team-high 14 rebounds, including seven on the offensive end.
Despite tallying 46 rebounds, Coastal - South was unable to overcome shooting struggles and 14 turnovers, which Lawson State capitalized on during key stretches of the second half.
Headed to North Alabama
The Coyotes will look to regroup as they continue conference play later this week, traveling to Decatur, Ala. for a matchup against Calhoun Community College (Ala.) on Thursday, Jan. 22. Thursday's game is scheduled to tip off at 7:30 p.m. CT.
