BAY MINETTE, Ala. - Coastal Alabama - South Men's Basketball delivered another strong offensive performance on Feb. 26, powering past Wallace State Community College - Hanceville (Ala.) with a 102-90 victory inside Jack Robertson Arena.
The Coyotes shot an efficient 52.3 percent (34-of-65) from the floor and knocked down 31 free throws to reach the 100-point mark, using balanced scoring and relentless pressure to secure the double-digit win.
Williams and Jones Lead the Charge
Sophomore guard Josh Williams turned in a dominant performance, pouring in a game-high 31 points on 11-of-17 shooting. He added eight made free throws, four rebounds, three assists and four steals, igniting Coastal on both ends of the floor. Williams continues to pace the ACCC in scoring with 23.1 points per game on the year.
Makhi Jones was equally impactful, finishing with 30 points while going 14-of-17 from the free-throw line. The forward added nine rebounds, three assists and a block, consistently attacking the paint and converting through contact. Jones now averages 18.5 points per contest this season, placing him fifth overall in the conference.
Together, the duo accounted for 61 of Coastal's 102 points.
Balanced Support Fuels Offensive Surge
Jaden Champion contributed nine points and seven rebounds, helping anchor the defensive glass, while Tyler Rivers was perfect from the field (3-for-3) and the line (3-for-3), finishing with nine points and seven boards. Off the bench, the 'Yotes received timely contributions. Terrance Adams went a perfect 2-for-2 from the floor with two steals, while Chris Little knocked down a three-pointer and scored five points. BJ Cooks added five points, two assists and a block in 25 minutes of action.
Coastal controlled the glass with 36 rebounds and dished out 14 assists while forcing 12 steals. The defensive activity translated into transition opportunities that kept Wallace State from mounting a sustained comeback.
Getting It Done at the Line
Although Coastal struggled from beyond the arc (3-of-22), the Coyotes made up the difference by attacking the rim and living at the free-throw line. Coastal converted 31-of-46 attempts (67.4 percent), repeatedly capitalizing on second-chance opportunities and aggressive drives to the basket.
With the victory, Coastal Alabama - South builds momentum heading into the final two games of the regular season, needing to win out and losses from others in the standings to potentially crack the postseason.
Final Road Test Ahead
Coastal - South returns to action on Monday night, Mar. 2, facing off with Southern Union State (Ala.) at 7:30 p.m. CT in Wadley, Ala.
