DECATUR, Ala. - Coastal Alabama - South Men's Basketball broke through in conference play Thursday night, Jan. 22, picking up a pivotal 78-69 road victory over Calhoun Community College (Ala.) in north Alabama to secure its first league win of the season. The victory for the Coyotes improves the ACCC record to 1-2 this season, with the overall record improving to 6-12.

The Coyotes delivered one of their most complete performances of the year, setting the tone early and never relinquishing control. Coastal - South jumped out to a strong start offensively, building a 42-34 advantage at halftime behind balanced scoring and efficient ball movement. The momentum carried into the second half, where the 'Yotes matched Calhoun's intensity and closed out the nine-point win by scoring 36 points over the final 20 minutes.
Makhi Jones led the way with a game-high 23 points, attacking the paint and converting key free throws down the stretch. He finished 8-of-18 from the floor and added six rebounds, four assists, and two blocks in a dominant all-around effort. Josh Williams followed and provided a steady presence throughout the night, pouring in 16 points while dishing out six assists. He was a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line and consistently created opportunities for teammates.
Meanwhile, Bryce Bracco stretched the defense with three made three-pointers, finishing with nine points, while AJ Thompson filled up the stat sheet with eight points, a team-high 10 rebounds, five assists, and four steals in 35 minutes of action. Terrance Adams added nine points, and Tyler Rivers gave the 'Yotes a physical presence inside, recording 10 rebounds to go along with five points off the bench.
As a team, Coastal Alabama - South shot 40.3% from the field and knocked down seven three-pointers. Just as importantly, the Coyotes shared the basketball with 20 assists and took care of it with only six turnovers in 40 minutes of play. Coastal also controlled the glass, finishing with 40 total rebounds.
The road win marks a significant step forward for Coastal Alabama - South in conference competition, providing a confidence boost as the 'Yotes continue ACCC play.
Homecoming; Battle of the Bays
Coastal Alabama - South will return to action on Monday night, Jan. 26 inside Jack Robertson Arena in Bay Minette, Ala., hosting local rival Bishop State (Ala.) for Homecoming on the Bay Minette campus. Monday's game is set for 7:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcasted live on JockJive.com.
