STANLEY JAMES FIELD | BAY MINETTE, Ala. - Coastal Alabama - South Baseball battled back to force extra innings but ultimately fell 12-9 to Coastal Alabama - North in 11 innings Tuesday night, Mar. 10 at Stanley James Field in Bay Minette. The overall record falls to 8-13 following the loss for the 'Yotes on the south campus as the current losing skid drops to seven.
The matchup marked the first of two meetings this season between the sibling rivals representing the Coastal Alabama's Bay Minette and Brewton campuses.
Coastal Alabama - North finished with 12 runs on 15 hits and three errors, while Coastal - South recorded nine runs on 10 hits and committed no errors in the contest.
After an 8-4 deficit entering the middle innings, Coastal Alabama - South began chipping away at the visitor's lead. Coastal - North held a 9-7 advantage heading into the bottom of the eighth inning, but Coastal - South responded with a clutch rally, plating two runs to tie the game at 9-9 and eventually send the contest into extra innings.
Both teams were held scoreless in the ninth and tenth innings before Coastal - North broke through in the top of the 11th. The Coyotes pushed across three runs to take a 12-9 lead, giving them the separation they needed to secure the victory. Coastal - South was unable to answer in the bottom half of the inning as the visitors closed out the extra-inning win.
Clayton Kimball, Seth Payne, and Noah Eady all finished with two hits each in the tough loss on Tuesday, while Tyler DelVecchio finished 1-for-3 with a solo home run and two walks. Kimball, Eady, and Aiden Hughes all paced the offense with two RBIs each. From the mound, Jackson Killcreas and Trevor Ferris kept Coastal - South in the game with scoreless ninth and 10th frames. Paxton Stallings was only able to go 1 1/3 innings as the starter for Coastal - South, and Maddox Mckinion put together the longest outing on the pitching staff last night, throwing 3 1/3 innings and allowing just two hits and one run. He struck out five.
Tuesday's contest was the first of two scheduled meetings between the programs this season. The rivals will meet again on Mar. 31 when Coastal Alabama - South travels to Brewton for the rematch.
Conference Road Trip Ahead
The 'Yotes are scheduled to return to action on Thursday, Mar. 12, weather permitting. Coastal - South will travel to Wadley, Ala. for a doubleheader against Southern Union State (Ala.), beginning a four-game home-and-home series with the Bison on the weekend. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m. CT on Thursday.
