BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Coastal Alabama - South Baseball put together a strong offensive showing on Thursday afternoon, Apr. 9, sweeping an ACCC Division I road doubleheader over Lawson State Community College with 7-4 and 16-12 victories. With the sweep, the Coyotes have now won three-straight games, improving to 16-24 overall and 8-14 in conference play.
Bats Come Alive in the Magic City
Coastal - South set the tone early in game one, using timely hitting and a solid outing on the mound to secure the 7-4 win. The Coyotes opened the game with a single run in the first and third innings, while putting together a big five-run seventh frame to secure the game one win.
Kennedy Leggett led the charge offensively, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while Aiden Hughes added a 2-for-4 performance with an RBI and two runs. Seth Payne and Derek Jelen each recorded two hits and an RBI, with Brooks Womble driving in a pair of runs. On the mound, Payne delivered a strong start, tossing 6.2 innings while allowing seven hits and four runs, striking out eight to earn the win. Coleman Capaci picked up the save by recording the final out via the strikeout.Â
Game two turned into an offensive slugfest, with the Coyotes outlasting Lawson State in a 16-12 victory. Coastal's lineup erupted for 16 runs behind a number of standout performances, with the team scoring at least one run in seven of the nine innings played.Â
Brooks Womble led the way with a huge game, going 3-for-6 with a solo home run, double, five RBIs, and two runs scored. Derek Jelen added power of his own, finishing 2-for-5 with a home run, double, RBI, and four runs scored. London Prashad contributed a 3-for-4 effort with a double, RBI, and two runs, while Kennedy Leggett and Seth Payne each drove in two runs in the win. The offense recorded 18 total hits for the third time this season in the game two victory to earn the sweep.
Rematch in Bay Minette
Coastal Alabama - South will look to keep the momentum rolling as they return home to face Lawson State in another conference doubleheader on Saturday, Apr. 11 at Stanley James Field in Bay Minette. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. CT.
