Box Score 2 BAY MINETTE, Ala. - Coastal Alabama South Softball split a home doubleheader with Northwest Shoals (Ala.) on Thursday, March 20, winning game one 1-0 in walk-off fashion, while falling 12-9 in extra innings during the nightcap. The Coyotes saw the overall record move to 20-14 following Thursday's results, while the conference record in the ACCC advances to 4-6.
Doubleheader Highlights
Game one quickly became a pitching duel between Coastal North starter Lauren Mounce and Northwest Shoals pitcher Jacey Moore, with Mounce eventually getting the upper hand with a complete game, one-hit shutout over the Patriots. Coastal South scored the game's lone run in the bottom of the seventh, walking off the Patriots for the big win. Kailin Parker managed the game-winning it, scoring pinch-runner Riley Bennett in the process. The game-winning hit was just the Coyotes' second hit of the afternoon.
For Mounce, the Kenner, La. native finished with six strikeouts from the pitcher's circle during the one-hit shutout victory. Meanwhile, a costly error in the bottom of the seventh handed Jacey Moore the loss from the rubber as Moore picked up four strikeouts and one unearned run.Â
Thursday's second game featured offense for both sides as the two teams combined for 30 hits in nine innings. Coastal South took a strong 5-0 lead after three innings, but allowed four runs in the fourth for Northwest Shoals. Coastal South then answered with three runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning, taking an 8-4 lead to the middle innings. The Patriots then sparked a rally, pushing across four runs over the next two frames to tie the game and eventually force extra innings. In the top of the ninth, Northwest Shoals scored four runs to grab a 12-8 lead. In the bottom of the ninth, the Coyotes began a rally of their own with one run scoring. However, Northwest Shoals survived the comeback and grabbed the 12-9 win.
Despite the loss, Sydni Carpenter finished an outstanding 4-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs, two runs scored, and one walk. She totaled nine bases in the extra-inning loss. Meanwhile, Gabby Miller, Taylor Hunt, and Gracie Toledano all finished 2-for-5 at the plate, with Toledano picking up an RBI and scoring two runs. Maleah Hale finished with a pair of RBIs in a 1-for-3 performance at the dish and Grace Langston managed a 1-or-3 line with two runs scored and one walk.
Coastal South used three pitchers in the losing effort, combining for seven earned runs off 16 hits, while striking out just three batters and walking five.

The two teams will meet for an additional doubleheader on Saturday, March 22 in Muscle Shoals, Ala., scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m. CT.Â
