Box Score 2 BAY MINETTE SOFTBALL COMPLEX | BAY MINETTE, Ala. - After a late location change due to an onfield sprinkler issue, Coastal Alabama South Softball managed a split across two conference games with Snead State (Ala.) at the Bay Minette Softball Complex on Wednesday, April 16. Snead State opened Wednesday's action with a statement win in five innings, but the Coyotes bounced back and secured a victory in game two later that afternoon.
Coastal South improves to 31-17 overall on the year and 13-9 in the ACCC following Wednesday's split. The two teams are scheduled to meet for an additional doubleheader on Friday.
Splitting Wednesday Action
In game one, Snead State set the tone of the game early by plating seven runs in the first inning. Meanwhile, Coastal South's offense was unable to score across the first four frames. Snead State added an additional run in the third before going up 12-0 on the Coyotes following a four-run fifth. Coastal South pushed across two runs in the fifth, but the deficit was too great and the Parsons earned a 12-2 win in run-rule fashion.Â
Coastal South only managed four hits in game one, with Brianna Ryan becoming the only Coyote with an RBI in the defeat. Meanwhile, three pitchers combined to allow 12 hits for Snead State, with seven of the 12 runs being recorded as earned runs. Coastal South pitching only recorded one strikeout in the five-inning loss.
In the second game on Wednesday, pitching was much better as Coastal South allowed just one run off five hits for Snead State. The offense picked up as well in the nightcap as the Coyotes grabbed a 3-0 lead in the second inning. The Coyotes added two insurance runs in the fifth before the Parsons finally hit the scoreboard with their lone run in the sixth. Coastal South went on to win the game, 5-1.
Gabby Miller finished 2-for-3 at the plate, being the only Coyote with multiple hits in the winning effort. Abbie Davis recorded Coastal South's lone RBI after finishing 1-for-3 with a run scored. Coastal South's offense relied on defensive miscues from the Parsons in game two, with Snead State recording three errors.
From the pitcher's circle, Lauren Mounce was lights out and tossed a complete game from the rubber. Mounce allowed just the one run, while striking out five batters in the win.
"We didn't show up ready to play today, but managed to bounce back in game two and pull out the split," said Coastal South Head Coach Mallory Radwitch. "The girls have to do a better job of being consistent and competing every time we hit the field."
Good Friday DH Ahead
The Coyotes will meet Snead State again on Friday, April 18 in Boaz, Ala. to conclude the four-game set with the Parsons. Friday's DH is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m. CT.
