Softball Splits Saturday Home Doubleheader with Calhoun

Coyotes Split Saturday DH; Win Series 3-1 Over Warhawks

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BAY MINETTE, Ala. - After sweeping the Warhawks of Calhoun C.C. (Ala.) one day prior, the Coastal Alabama South Softball team split a Saturday doubleheader with Calhoun on April 5, seeing the overall record move to 27-15 and 9-7 in the conference after claiming the series win.

The Coyotes won game one 12-4 on Saturday, ending the game early due to the NJCAA run rule. However, Calhoun stormed back in game two and defeated the Coyotes 10-6, snapping a seven-game win streak Coastal South was riding in the process.

Box Score Highlights

Coastal South won game one 12-4, only recording six hits in the victory after working nine walks and four hit-by-pitches in the game. Designated player Payson Hanson had a big day at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and a walk. She finished with two RBIs and two runs scored in the win. Charlotte Lottinger joined Hanson with a big performance at the plate, driving in a team-high four runs after finishing 1-for-2 at the dish. Three of Lottinger's four RBIs came following a bases-clearing double in the first inning.

Other notable performances at the plate included Gracie Toledano, who notched two RBIs and a walk, and Taylor Hunt with a 1-for-2 line and two runs scored. From the pitcher's circle, Anna Griggs earned the win from out of the bullpen after tossing three scoreless innings to close out the game. Griggs collected her first collegiate no-hitter the day before against Calhoun. The Coastal South offense managed a four-run sixth inning to close out the victory early.

In game two, Calhoun worked a comeback to salvage the series finale after dropping the first three games to the Coyotes. Coastal South had a 4-1 lead after four innings, but the Warhawks sparked a rally in the top of the fifth and pushed across eight runs. Calhoun eventually out-hit the Coyotes 13-10 in the 10-6 victory.

Taylor Hunt recorded a home run and finished 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored in the loss. Meanwhile, Maleah Hale and Abbie Davis both finished 3-for-3 at the plate with a run scored near the bottom of the lineup after not playing in game one. In the circle, Caylee Johnson got the start and finished with 4 1/3 innings of work, allowing six runs to score. The bullpen struggled against the Warhawks as Calhoun added five more runs, three earned, against the Yotes' 'pen.

Back Home on Thursday

Coastal South returns to action on Thursday afternoon, April 10, hosting Shelton State C.C. (Ala.) for a 1:00 p.m. CT doubleheader in Bay Minette.
