Box Score VETERANS PARK | ALABASTER, Ala. - Coastal Alabama South Softball fell in the opening game of the 2025 ACCC D-I Softball Championship Tournament on Thursday afternoon, May 8, dropping a close 4-2 game to Northwest-Shoals (Ala.). The loss drops the Coyotes to the loser's bracket of the tournament, with the team looking to keep the 2025 season alive on Friday morning at 12:00 p.m. CT.
Coastal South's overall record on the year falls to 36-23.Â
How It Happened
The No. 5 seed of Northwest-Shoals hit the scoreboard first on Thursday, pushing across a run in the top of the first inning against the fourth-seeded Coyotes. Two innings later, Coastal South tied the game following a solo home run off the bat of Kailin Parker. The Patriots responded next half inning with another run in the fourth to reclaim the lead, 2-1.
In the bottom of the fifth, Parker came up with another RBI, doubling on a line drive to left field to score Taylor Hunt. With the game tied 2-2, the Patriots responded once again and tallied two runs in the top of the sixth. From there, the Patriots' pitching staff held firm as Northwest-Shoals secured a two-run victory in the postseason opener.
Northwest-Shoals out-hit Coastal South 6-5, with the Coyotes committing one costly error in the sixth. Kailin Parker led the team with a 2-for-2 day at the plate, adding a walk and recording both RBIs in the loss. Taylor Hunt, Brianna Ryan, and Abbie Davis all recorded one hit each in the defeat. From the pitcher's circle, Lauren Mounce got the start and tossed four innings, allowing two runs, four walks, and striking out three. Anna Griggs pitched the remaining three innings, eventually being hit with the loss after allowing two unearned runs.Â

The Coyotes await the winner of the (6) Calhoun (Ala.) vs. (2) Southern Union (Ala.) game for a 12:00 p.m. CT game on Friday, May 9. Friday's game is an elimination game and will be broadcasted live on JockJive Sports YouTube.
