Box Score JACK ROBERTSON ARENA | BAY MINETTE, Ala. - Coastal Alabama - South Women's Basketball turned in another dominant performance under head coach Cedric Yelding on Monday, Jan. 12, rolling past Lurleen B. Wallace Community College (Ala.) 84-41 to improve to 12-2 overall on the season and extend the current winning streak to six games heading into ACCC Division I Conference play. The win follows Coastal - South's 75-45 victory over Delgado CC (La.) in the previous outing and caps a strong non-conference stretch for 'Yotes.
Coyotes Continue Winning Ways
The Coyotes were sharp on both ends of the floor against LBW, shooting 49.3% from the field and knocking down 40% from three-point range while overwhelming the Saints on the glass with 52 total rebounds in the 43-point victory. Coastal - South also recorded a whopping 27 steals and 10 blocks as a team, turning defensive pressure into consistent scoring opportunities throughout the night. The game opened with the Coyotes managing a 25-5 run across the first quarter, eventually leading 51-17 at the halftime break. The 'Yotes added 33 more points in the second half.
Brooklyn Phillips led all scorers with 20 points on a 7-of-10 shooting performance against LBW, connecting on four three-pointers and adding six rebounds and three assists. Tyra Caves followed her career-best 26-point performance with 13 points on Monday, hitting three shots from beyond the arc while adding three assists and three steals. Meanwhile, Kalaysia Robinson and Shamiya Oliver controlled the paint, each grabbing eight rebounds, while Robinson added eight points and two blocks. Oliver chipped in four points and was active defensively with two steals.
Coastal - South's depth was once again on display, as 11 different players scored against the Saints. Kennedy Gill finished with nine points, three assists and two steals off the bench, while Laila Young posted a strong all-around effort with eight points, a team-high nine rebounds and five steals. Shakira Williams added eight points and four rebounds, and Monica Whack contributed five points, seven rebounds and a team-best five blocks.
The Coyotes, who have outscored opponents 159-86 over the last two games, now turn their attention to the start of ACCC Division I Conference play riding both confidence and momentum.
ACCC Road Contest Awaits
The 'Yotes will begin conference action on Thursday evening, Jan. 15 with a road matchup against Gadsden State (Ala.) in Gadsden, Ala. Thursday's game is set for 5:30 p.m. CT and is the start of seven consecutive conference games for Coastal - South.
