BAY MINETTE, Ala. - The Coastal Alabama - South Softball team returned to the win column in a big way on Tuesday afternoon, Mar. 10, sweeping Carl Sandburg College (Ill.) in a non-conference doubleheader in dominating fashion. The Coyotes opened Tuesday's action with a 9-1 run-rule victory in game one, following that game with a 20-3 blowout win in the nightcap. Both games ended in the fifth inning.
The overall record improves to 12-8 for the 'Yotes during the 2026 campaign ahead of ACCC play scheduled to begin on Thursday.
Coyotes Outscore Chargers, 29-4
In the 9-1 game one victory for Coastal - South, the Coyotes were led offensively by center fielder Addy Stein, who finished 2-for-2 at the plate with three RBIs. Sydni Carpenter, Ava Gradick, Riley Bennett, and Breleigh Corley joined Stein with a pair of hits in the win, with Carpenter connecting on her ACCC-leading 11th homer of the season. Coastal out-hit Carl Sandburg 11-3 in the win, with Emma Olive pinch-hitting late in the game to eventually end the game early with a two-run double in the fifth. From the pitcher's circle, Anna Robin tossed all five innings, allowing only three hits and one run while striking out three.Â
The Coyotes continued to build momentum across game two in Bay Minette, pushing across 20 runs in five innings. Coastal - South used two six-run innings and an eight-run inning to put the 20-spot on Carl Sandburg as the Chargers only managed three runs in the third frame.
Sydni Carpenter continued her strong day with two more hits in the nightcap, recording a double and picking up three RBIs. Charlotte Lottinger joined Carpenter with three RBIs, scoring three runs herself. Meanwhile, Breleigh Corley and pinch-hitter Fancy Malone recorded two RBIs as 11 Coyotes total notched at least one RBI in the lopsided win.Â
Sam Daniels got the start on the rubber in game two, allowing the three Carl Sandburg runs in 2 1/3 innings of work. The bullpen for Coastal - South shut the Chargers' offense down, with Jacey Reed and Mackenzie Boullon combining for 2 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing only one hit and recording four strikeouts.Â
Feeling Good Heading into Conference
After the dominating day in Bay Minette on Tuesday, Coastal - South Softball is set for ACCC Division I play ahead on Thursday, Mar. 12 against Southern Union State (Ala.). Thursday's doubleheader is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m. CT in Bay Minette and is the first two games of a four-game set on the weekend with the Bison.Â
