Series Highlights
The Coyotes opened the series in Bay Minette on Mar. 19 with a pair of dominant performances, fueled by strong pitching and timely offense. In the opener, Coastal - South relied on a stellar effort in the pitcher's circle from Anna Robin to secure a 2-0 shutout victory. Robin blanked the Patriots across all seven innings, only allowing four hits and striking out five batters. The Coyotes hit the scoreboard with a two-run fourth inning, eventually proving to be all the 'Yotes needed in the end. Sydni Carpenter put Coastal - South ahead with a solo home run to open the frame, while a sacrifice fly from Riley Bennett put the Coyotes ahead by two. From there, it was all Robin and the Coyote defense to secure the game one win.
Later that day, the Coyotes' offense broke through in a big way. Coastal - South plated runs early and often on the way to a 9-0 run-rule victory in five innings. The lineup plated five runs in the opening inning, while adding on throughout the game. Meanwhile, the pitching staff saw another strong showing in the circle to preserve the second shutout of the afternoon as Sam Daniels earned the shutout win on the rubber, allowing only three hits in the scoreless outing.Â
The offense saw Sydni Carpenter come up with another home run, giving her two on the day and 14 on the season, while Breleigh Corley shined with a five-RBI performance. Corley notched a pair of hits in the game two win, highlighted by a bases-clearing triple in the first inning. Corley later drove in two more runs with a single in the third. Other contributors at the plate include Ava Gradick (2 BB, 3 R), Riley Bennett (0-for-2, RBI), and Breanna Ryan (1-for-2, BB, R).
The series shifted north to Northwest Shoals for the final two contests in Muscle Shoals, Ala. on Saturday, where the Coyotes were tested in tighter matchups. In game three of the series, Coastal - South survived a late comeback from the Patriots to secure a 4-3 win. The Coyotes led 4-1 entering the bottom of the sixth inning, but saw Northwest Shoals push across all three runs during the final two frames. However, clutch pitching snapped the Patriots' comeback effort one run short. Anna Robin earned the win with 6 2/3 innings of work, being charged with all three runs. Sam Daniels picked up the save by recording the final out in the seventh with the tying run standing at third.
Offensively, the 'Yotes came away with just five hits, opening the game with a two-run first inning. Ava Gradick, Riley Bennett, and Breleigh Corley all picked up an RBI each in the win, with Corley finishing as the only Coyote with multiple hits. Sydni Carpenter, Breanna Ryan, and Gradick all walked twice.Â
In the series finale, Coastal - South once again leaned on its offensive production, pulling away for a 9-5 victory. The win was highlighted by a five-run fifth inning, which eventually kept the Coyotes out front despite another Northwest Shoals comeback attempt. Sydni Carpenter was moved to the leadoff spot in the lineup for the finale, reaching base all five times in the process. Carpenter finished 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, adding two walks. Meanwhile, Riley Dunnam went 3-for-5 with an RBI and Ava Gradick finished 2-for-5 with two RBIs in the win. From the circle, Sam Daniels notched her second complete game of the series, allowing six hits, eight walks, and striking out two. Only three of the five runs scored were earned runs.Â
Across the series, Coastal - South showcased a balanced effort, highlighted by consistent pitching, opportunistic hitting, and the ability to execute in close games. The Coyotes outscored Northwest Shoals 24-8 over the four contests, including two shutout victories and three games with four or more runs scored. With the sweep, Coastal - South looks to continue to establish themselves as one of the top teams in the conference as they build momentum heading deeper into league competition.
